This is clearly a scam. Seems like there's a business leasing out Manchester phone numbers to just about anyone willing to pay up, no matter if they’re from Russia, India, Afghanistan or even the UK. BT really needs to put a stop to this.

Loads of folks have said similar, they said they were from some outfit named 'homecare' and that we had £119 coming back from some washing machine cover we supposedly paid for (which we actually never did). When I pressed them for specifics, like where and when I supposedly bought the washing machine, they couldn’t give a proper answer. So yeah, feels dodgy to me. Bit suspicious if you ask me.

Got a call from 01615202134 about an elderly neighbour, claiming to be from Currys regarding a refund of more than £100 on a washing machine overpayment. They somehow convinced my neighbour to share their bank details, including sort code and account number. I told him to cut off the call right away and to give me any mail from the bank so we could report it and get rid of it. The whole thing was reported to ActionFraud.

BEWARE, SCAM ALERT! If you get a dodgy call or message, make sure you report it straight to the police fraud system. Just search for ‘action fraud’ and find the 'police.uk' website. Then go to the section for reporting phishing scams and carefully read what’s there before putting in the scam details. Don’t forget to add any suspicious links or website addresses. You don’t need to sign up or give personal info unless you’ve actually lost cash to the scam. The police rely on us reporting every call and text like this to build up evidence and stop these crooks.

Got a call on 23/04/22 around 11:35 from a man with an Indian accent claiming he was from Home Care Insurance, saying they'd refund me £110 for washing machine cover. He knew my name and address and pushed for my email, but I refused to share it. I keep getting calls from two separate numbers, 0161 520 2134 and 0161 520 2135, both from scammers. The first call was from a man with an Asian accent and the second from a woman with a similar accent. When I told them to just put the money back on the card or account it was taken from, they suddenly got really annoyed and just hung up on me. Proper cheeky!
