I had a rather peculiar call today from someone claiming to be Jason Smith, supposedly representing the UK Government's Ministry of Justice. He informed me that my bank had overcharged me and that they were ready to refund the excess amount. I pretended to be preoccupied, and they handed me this number to ring back at my convenience…

Absolutely ridiculous. It’s nothing but a con!

I received a rather dubious message claiming that I was owed a cheque for £7900.41 due to an overpayment on a Government loan. They suggested a visit to hand over the cheque in person, which immediately raised red flags for me. They provided a contact number to call back and a reference number too, but it all feels quite suspect if you ask me.
