Like I’m some sort of easy target for bank info, but I don’t even have an account, so ha! Joke’s on them, they’re just wasting their own time. It’s definitely a scam, I picked up for a sec, just heard a woman’s voice then hung up. Next thing, they call again and when I ignore it, they text me from a Manchester number saying ‘yo!!!!’ then ‘ansa ya phone’ - I was like ‘no way!’ what kinda freaks are these? Proper weirdos!

It seems like there's a small group of them, each buying their own phone numbers from the networks. What they do is hand your number over to someone else in the group, so if you ask them to remove your number, they just fib and pass it along to the next bloke.

They ring me every now and then at odd hours and I've always just hung up once they stop talking. I’m based in London and always thought it was strange getting calls from someone in Manchester, but now that I get it, I’m definitely blocking that number.

Without a doubt, this is a scam! O2 would never employ 'third party' agents, as they have no reason to do so. Moreover, genuine calls from them are always followed up with a text message for confirmation.

Earlier this morning at around 11 o'clock, I found myself speaking to someone who identified as Clive Roberts (at least that’s the name he gave me when I pressed him for it towards the end of our conversation). He was keen to sell me a ‘sim only’ deal, claiming it was part of a promotional offer. His inquiries were rather probing, and I was quite wary given the suspicious tone he took. When we eventually reached the topic of bank details, I clearly stated that I don’t share such sensitive information with total strangers. This clearly irked him, as he adopted a rather aggressive tone, trying to assure me of his legitimacy. He even insisted that I must recognise the cacophony of the call centre in the background. I wasn’t swayed in the slightest. He promised to send me a text to validate his claims, which would supposedly contain details about where he was based. However, what came through was not what I expected. It read: ‘Here is your code ******. Please enter this code on the site to continue registering your O2 account.’ Quite odd, I thought. I asked him to ring me back at 4pm to discuss further. Nevertheless, at 3pm, I received yet another identical text but with a different code. When I answered the phone at 4, he was noticeably frustrated when I declined his ‘offer’. EDIT: I did suggest sending any relevant paperwork via post for me to review before sharing my bank details, to which he responded that they do not do that, and that it was purely a phone promotion. - Caller: Clive Roberts

During my discussion with customer service, I highlighted the fact that these callers were exploiting O2's own website to send texts that mislead recipients into thinking they are genuine communications from O2. I strongly advise you to avoid engaging with this number, as it is just another cold caller trying to peddle their wares.
