I got a call from a guy who said his name was Chris, sounded like proper English bloke, talking about loft insulation. Thing is, his voice came across all robotic, so I joked and asked if he was some kind of robot. He said no, but then when I challenged him to add 2 plus 2 and give me the answer, he just hung up straight away. Since I’m on the TPS list, I’d say this caller’s definitely dodgy, probably trying to scam you or steal your info. Stay sharp!

I recently got my house checked for an energy saving grant, and then I got a call about loft insulation. The call had this weird clicking noise, making me think it might be a robot. These con artists thrive because loads of people in the UK don’t bother reporting scams like this - that’s how they keep getting through. Loads of us get bombarded with scam calls and messages, and scammers are aware that most people in the UK don’t bother reporting them. That’s how they carry on doing it. The best way to put an end to these irritating scams is by reporting every single case you come across. You can text the call info to 7726 and then just follow the reply instructions to confirm your report. This is part of the phishing report system detailed on the National Cyber Security Centre’s site under the PHISHING section. Other suggestions include: forwarding suspicious texts to 7726, emailing screenshots or copied texts with links to '[email protected]', and forwarding scam emails to '[email protected]'.
