Got a call from some bloke asking for a name that hasn’t been around here for over a decade, if at all. This isn’t the first time someone’s phoned asking for this name, and it’s happened on different numbers too, which seems a bit dodgy.

They called me up and somehow already knew my name, then started talking about renewing a service contract for my washing machine. Thing is, I never even had a contract in the first place!

Got a cold call saying our washing machine’s warranty was about to expire and asking if I wanted to renew it. I asked them what brand my machine was. They said they couldn't say because of data protection rules. I pointed out they’d called me, so surely they’d know. After a pause, they said it’s an Indesit. I told them that wasn’t correct. Then they quickly asked if I was interested in extending the warranty. I just said no thanks and hung up.

When I spoke to the person yesterday, I told them the person they wanted was on another line and even gave them my minicall pager number. Of course, they never bothered trying to call the pager - which would’ve cost them around 50p to connect. Unfortunately, I missed the follow-up call from this number, otherwise I would’ve definitely pulled the same stunt with the pager again.

Some bloke rang my 90-year-old mum from this number. I happened to be nearby and picked up. The guy seemed to know her name and started asking if I wanted to extend the warranty on our washing machine. When I told him there was no warranty, he just hung up. If my mum had answered instead, I dread to think what nonsense he might have tried to sell her. Surely the police or phone companies could do something to stop these kinds of calls?

I told her straight I don't own one, called her a muppet, and hung up. Tried ringin' them back on my mobile, but all I got was some hold message before the line cut off. No clue who they're claiming to be, but they sound dodgy as hell. No way I'm givin' them any of my bank info.

Told her straight up I don’t have one, called her a liar and hung up. Then I tried ringing them back from my mobile but it just put me on hold and then cut off. No clue who they’re actually claiming to be, but it’s dodgy as hell. Not giving them any of my bank info, no way.

I decided to ring back with my number hidden - the company calling was 'Its OK'. I got through to someone who said it was just a friendly call reminding me my washing machine warranty is about to expire and claimed they got my details from the manufacturer. Asked them to take me off their list (without giving my full number) and they insisted their methods are completely above board.
