Today, I received a call from a gentleman who claimed to be looking to renew my washing machine warranty. He came across as quite pleasant, but it struck me as very peculiar when he couldn't identify the model of my appliance or explain how he knew my warranty had lapsed. It all feels rather fishy; I suspect it might be some sort of scam.

Phone went straight to voicemail, which is always funny cos these so-called “scammers” never actually wanna leave a message. I think answerphones are the best shield against this rubbish, which seems to be everywhere nowadays - texts, calls, emails and all that. We should all just keep our eyes open for this stuff.

Got a call from some bloke named Jonathan Glenn about renewing Sky box insurance. Said that because we haven't made any claims last year, we could get TV cover if we sign up for two years. Seemed a bit fishy but I went along with it. He’s sending some paperwork through the post now. The funny part is, we don’t even have Sky and never did. We’re on the TPS list too, so this is definitely a dodgy use of phone data. Once the stuff arrives, I’ll be reporting them to the ICO and TPS. Hope they get hit with a hefty fine!

Got a call from someone claiming to be with a Homecare company, talking about a warranty for my washing machine that's been going for like 12 years! I told them I wasn’t keen on any insurance plans, guessing that’s what they wanted to pitch. But they just wouldn’t accept my refusal. Ended up hanging up on them.

Got a call from a friendly bloke who said something about our Sky box security being expired and he seemed to know our name and address. I wasn't sure I caught what he said right, so I asked him to clarify which box he meant. As soon as I did, he just hung up on me. Thing is, we don’t even have a Sky box!

Usually, scammers expect you to say hello before they start talking, and if you just stay quiet, they get caught off guard and tend to hang up pretty quick. That’s exactly what happened with this one.

I asked him to make sure I’d got that right and he said yes, Sky like the TV company. Then he started talking about some sort of insurance policy we supposedly had. That’s when I told him straight up that it sounded like a scam and I was ending the call. We’ve never had anything to do with Sky here, no insurance with them either. Just another dodgy scam call, sadly.
