Got a call on my home phone from someone saying they were from Amazon's security team, checking if I'd bought a phone last night around 10 pm. They said it was a purchase made somewhere in Devon. He kept pushing me to check my email but I wasn't convinced. I asked him for his credentials, and he said his name was Michael Albert, giving me some ID code AS1507AM. When I started asking more detailed questions, he said he needed to consult his supervisor and then just cut the call. Sounded fishy, definitely a scam attempt.

Picked up the phone and could hear loads of noise, kinda like a busy kitchen in the background. The person on the other end didn’t say anything at all, and after I kept saying our company’s usual hello a couple times, they just ended the call. They’ve done the exact same thing before.

His accent was foreign and a bit hard to catch everything he said.

Got a call today while I was in North Wales, the person claimed to be from Amazon Security, saying someone had used my info to buy an iPhone the night before. They wanted to confirm it was me. When I started asking more questions, they just quickly ended the call. Definitely a scam as they couldn’t answer properly. Best to just ignore this number and don’t get involved.

They rang when we weren’t home but didn’t leave any voicemail. When I tried calling back, the number just didn’t connect. Seems like it could be a spoof number, even though the digits were first given out by Ofcom to BT way back in July 1994.

Moreover, I made it clear that I’ve never actually used Amazon, so I certainly don’t have an account with them. When I pressed for the email address they were supposedly using, the caller seemed flummoxed, saying everything was processed through their system. I then inquired about the specifics of the personal details that were allegedly leaked, asking whether it was my debit or credit card in question. Realising it was all very suspicious, I concluded it was a scam call, and the caller promptly hung up on me.
