Got two calls today while I was out (couldn’t leave a message) - pretty sure it’s the exact same scam I’ve seen mentioned here before (some Asian bloke saying my call blocking service needed renewing, trying to sell a nuisance call blocker). Had one like it yesterday too. Yesterday’s call came from a Cirencester number (01285 238757) but it popped up as an international call on my phone. Blocked it straight away. These scammers are using UK area codes (like 01248 from Bangor) to trick folk into picking up. Proper annoying.

He said the block on the nuisance calls would end today so I just hung up. Then he called straight back asking why I hung up, I told him now he was the nuisance and hung up again. He called once more and left a message saying I’d get it when they cancel my block and I’d start getting those annoying calls again from tomorrow. 🤨

Got a call from an Asian bloke complaining about nuisance calls. I told him "Well, YOU are the nuisance!" Didn’t even pause for me to speak and just kept going. He claimed I signed up with their service - which is total rubbish. Told him he should watch what he says and that I wasn’t interested in listening. Then he said he had my name and address, so obviously I must have registered with them. I accused him of nicking my info. Then he yelled "I’m not a thief!" before hanging up. Blocked him straight away.

some bloke called peter claiming to be from the telephone preference service. he asked if i was getting annoying calls. i told him he was one of them. but peter just kept going, asking again and saying i should register to block the calls. so this time i said i actually liked the calls and enjoyed chatting. he asked if i really didn't want them to stop, and i said again that i did like them. this totally threw him off and he had no reply - haha. honestly, complete con job - watch out.

i got a call from an asian woman who kept calling me mrs #####, which is actually my partners last name, not mine. she asked if i was the owner of the number. i told her i rent it from virgin media and she said something about them reaching out to her regarding lots of annoying calls i was receiving. i asked if she meant calls like the one i was just on, then just hung up.

Got the same call earlier today, very similar situation. The bloke already knew my name and address, just wanted me to confirm them and said I paid by direct debit (which I guess most people do). Then he asked me for the expiry date of a card linked to the account. That made me suspicious straight away - why would he need that if payment’s done by direct debit? When I told him I wouldn’t give out that info on the phone, he just cut off. Totally a scam for sure.

Then he asked who my provider was, and I told him that was none of his business. Told him I wasn’t having his threats and I’ve blocked the number now.

Got a call from an asian bloke who already knew our name and where we lived 13 years ago - didnt correct him tho. He asked if since signing up to the tps, were still gettin' those annoying calls (NOL), then tried to confirm by saying we'd registered a visa debit card expiring 2018. I said no cards were ever linked when i joined tps about 14 years ago. He kept saying i wasnt listening and asked me again. I repeated the same, and he got proper miffed at me!
