Phone rings, I pick up, nothing, then someone just says farewell. Blocked that number immediately!

As soon as I answered the call, the line went dead. Absolute nonsense, and frankly, a complete nuisance. I’d advise against returning the call to this number.

They informed me that the warranty for my washing machine has expired. Not surprisingly, I figured as much, considering it's already a dozen years old. The constant phone calls are beginning to wear me thin, and soon enough, I plan to give them a piece of my mind in a rather direct manner. I'm utterly fed up with these nuisance callers, but it irks me even more when I think about those companies that peddle our information around.

A deceitful lot, attempting to dupe you into purchasing insurance.

Picked up the call - nothing but silence on the other end - then it just cut off. Total waste of effort, breath and nerves - all of it pointless.

This number has rung us three times today already and we've blocked it now. Each time, as soon as the answering machine kicks in, the caller just drops the call. The number always starts with 01244 and has slight changes in the last digits. These calls come in daily, so we've stopped answering. Honestly, I'd say this counts as harassment at this point.

I phoned 01244459889 about 11 times trying to get through. Each time it reached an answerphone after roughly 6 mins 10 seconds, no one ever picking up. Shoregaurd Insurance said they can’t find any other contact number. Oddly enough, it was them who called me first on this Chester area code number.

I received a call today regarding the renewal of my washing machine service warranty, but they seemed completely clueless about the appliance I own. Although they had my address, they mispronounced my first name, which raised a red flag immediately. When I informed them that I had a five-year extended warranty through my machine's manufacturer and inquired about how they obtained my number, they abruptly hung up on me. My elderly relative has been inundated with similar calls-though not necessarily from this number-and has been convinced to take out appliance cover. In my experience, these contracts are basically a waste of money; they come at a steep price, and good luck trying to get through to the helpline when you actually need a repair.

It's rather disconcerting when you answer a call, only to be met with silence on the other end. This can be particularly worrying for women at home alone. I've got to wonder how they managed to get hold of my number since it's supposed to be unlisted. It's quite unsettling, to say the least!

It's impossible to get a moment's peace with these numpties ringing me a minimum of four times daily!

I had an unexpected phone call where the chap on the other end knew my name and even my address. He claimed it was about some kind of protection plan. When I inquired about which appliance it concerned, he stated it was for my washing machine. I clarified that there wasn't any such plan in place for my WM, and that’s when things took a bizarre turn-he accused me of lying! He went on to shout "LIAR LIAR LIAR" repeatedly until I could take no more and hung up the phone. Quite a peculiar experience, I must say!

Just like lots of others here, I never pick up for numbers I don't know. I just let the answering machine get on with it. Usually, those cold callers just hang up when you say “leave a message.” Once in a while they actually say something though. Other than my electric screwdriver, I reckon the answerphone is hands down the most handy gadget we’ve got!

This number kept phoning me loads of times about some washing machine protection plan that was apparently about to run out. The people on the other end were really impolite and refused to believe when I said I never signed up for anything! One of them even claimed I’d had this so-called cover for seven years, which is totally mad. I'd be interested to know who’s been paying for it because it sure as hell hasn’t been me. I’ve reported it to Trading Standards and Action Fraud now, and honestly, I’d advise anyone else to do the same as soon as they get a call from these lot.

I got a ring from 01244 459889 and the bloke sounded like he was from London. He asked for my late partner, so I asked what it was about. He claimed she’d bought a warranty for a washing machine last year which had now run out. I told him it sounded like a scam to me, but he kept saying she got the policy last year. I told him that couldn’t be right as she’d passed away. He then started swearing and just hung up on me. Lovely!

I keep receiving calls from this number, but whenever I answer, there's just silence on the other end. It's getting rather irritating as they ring me three or four times daily! Since I’m ex-directory, I’m baffled as to how they’ve managed to get hold of my number in the first place. It surely must be some dodgy scam!
9 years
Absolutely fed up with these blokes constantly ringing me throughout the day. Usually, I just let it go to voicemail. Today, I thought I’d pick up just to give them a piece of my mind and tell them to clear off. As soon as I said ‘hello’, they hung up! Typical!

These people keep ringing our phone asking for someone who doesn't even live here. When you say 'who's that?' they just repeat the name, then their behaviour changes - sometimes they hang up straight away, other times they say it’s really urgent they speak to them, and occasionally they try to chat. If you ask who they are or start telling them to stop calling, they just drop the call. No matter how you slice it, they won’t say who they are or respect your request to stop, so this number is dodgy and better off ignored.

If you see a number pop up that you don't recognise, it's best not to pick up. Just give it a few moments before checking your voicemail, as any important callers tend to leave a message. That's the plan I'll stick to from now on! I recently received a call from some chap wanting to discuss my washing machine insurance-he even knew my name and the model of my appliance! The thing is, I already have that sorted, and as soon as I informed him, he abruptly ended the call. It's quite suspicious, to say the least.

This company goes by the name DOMESTIC APPLIANCE CARE. They rang me saying my Hotpoint washing machine insurance had expired. I do have that insurance but the firm normally sends me letters about any updates and it’s something I pay for every year without fail. I reckon they got my details from a cold call I’d done, where I told the bloke I wouldn’t answer questions like what machine I own. I probably mentioned I got a Hotpoint and that it’s insured. The number was local, as mentioned above.

Not sure who that was, sounded like one of those cold calls. Could hear people chatting in the background, like it was from some call centre. I said hello and they just dropped the call. I just received a phone call moments ago where the caller mentioned my name and claimed it was regarding a policy I supposedly had for a washing machine. He then proceeded to probe for my address. When I expressed my discomfort in discussing such matters over the phone, he abruptly hung up on me. It certainly feels like a scam to me, so I’d advise against engaging with them.

I keep receiving calls from this number nearly every day, but when I answer, it's just dead air. It seems like they’re possibly waiting for someone older to pick up the line, hoping to trick them into divulging their bank information. Looking through the stories on this site, it appears I’m not the only one who thinks that.

I received a call just now from someone named Tom using this number. He began quizzing me about my old washing machine at my last residence, which made me chuckle since I haven’t lived there for ages. Just got a call where someone knew my name and address, saying my washing machine insurance was about to expire. I asked what policy he meant, and he said it was a 12 month one. I told him I haven't even had it that long and then he just ended the call.

It’s been over four years since I last picked up my home phone - every call just goes straight to voicemail nowadays. Honestly, it baffles me why folks continue to share their personal information over the phone! If you’re looking to renew a service or make a purchase, why not just call the company directly? It really feels like the telecoms couldn’t care less about the ongoing nuisance of scams and fraudulent firms.

someone rang me and when they asked for me (using my name) they just ended the call.

I've got my answering machine set up, yet nobody seems to bother leaving a message. It happened twice today alone, though I didn’t catch the number the first time around. Additionally, I'm listed as ex-directory and have signed up with the Telephone Preference Service, just like someone else mentioned. It really irks me that these irritating calls keep coming in, whether from abroad or local, and it feels like no action is taken to sort them out.

Got a call saying my washing machine insurance was about to expire and they offered to renew it but needed loads of my info first. I said i’d consider it but next day i checked with my actual insurer and my cover was fine, not close to ending. Rang my provider to report it and gave them the number, but they didn’t seem bothered at all. The same number’s kept calling me a few times since but when i pick up, there’s no one there.

I pick up, they wanna speak to the houseowner, I ask who’s calling, and then they just drop the call.

I’m quite relieved I managed to step in just in time whilst my elderly father was inadvertently disclosing information about his bank card. He was under the impression that he hadn’t renewed the insurance for our washing machine. Upon informing the chap on the line that I had sorted this out via direct debit, he casually claimed that they’d stopped that service. When I pressed him for his name, the company he was representing, and a contact number, he promptly ended the call! It was astonishingly convincing; both my father and his carer were completely taken in by his act!

They just cut off right when I picked up (what’s the point of calling then if you don’t wanna talk?)

Unfortunately, my poorly elderly mother fell victim to a scam after she naively handed over her bank details for some insurance on a washing machine. I attempted to reach out to them for assistance, only to be stuck on hold for ages before ultimately getting disconnected. Quite frustrating, to say the least!

I was hoping to secure a more affordable insurance policy, as we've always been reliable payers. I simply needed to update our credit card information for the washing machine.

This number constantly calls my mum but hangs up without saying anything. Quite bizarre, really!

I received a phone call from someone looking for a Mr S. When I inquired which Mr S he meant, he surprisingly used my first name. I confirmed it was indeed me he was speaking to, only for him to mention something about a washing machine at my address-which he correctly stated. I couldn’t help thinking it was a case of mistaken identity, so I let him know before he promptly hung up. Quite an odd encounter, really!

I’m getting quite irked by these persistent calls to my elderly mother regarding washing machines. Every time the phone rings, she struggles to rise and answer it, which isn't easy for her at all.

I received a call earlier from someone claiming to be from Assura Gold, trying to upsell insurance for my washing machine. The cheek of it! My appliance is already covered by an extended manufacturer's warranty, so I mentioned this to them. Curiously enough, the moment I requested specifics about the machine, the caller abruptly disconnected. They even had the audacity to mention my name and our address. Something felt off about the whole conversation, especially with their "special promotion" pitch. Quite the odd experience, to say the least!

Just received a rather cheeky call offering me a washing machine for a grand! Naturally, I put the phone down. It's incredibly frustrating dealing with these nuisance calls, particularly since I’m ex-directory and have signed up with the Telephone Preference Service. It seems my efforts to avoid them are completely in vain!
