Had one of those quiet calls the other day, you know the sort where a machine rings you, then links the call to a handler when available. If you pick up and all you hear is silence, just say “hello?” (definitely don’t share your details) and if no one answers, just hang up straight away. It’s best to be cautious. Anyone genuinely trying to reach you will just try again later.

If they mention the name of our business, do yourself a favour and verify the actual contact number on the official website.
