Got a call from someone using an Ashford Kent number, but it was obviously an Indian scammer. They tried that classic trick about my Amazon being hacked. Don't hang about, just end the call straight away and make sure to report it.

I looked up the number and found it was from a legit market research firm called Watermelon Research, they’ve even won some awards. They gave me time to double-check before I started and the survey was pretty quick, took about 5 minutes. Don’t get why everyone’s moaning. People are just doing their jobs, be polite and stop being so harsh!!

Got a call in the evening from someone asking about my opinion on plans to expand Gatwick airport. I’m nowhere near Gatwick though. They sounded like they had a list of local postcodes they were ringing. They wanted to speak to someone in the household about property, aged 18 to 64. I told them no one was around and they hung up. This evening, I received a call from a lady claiming to be conducting a survey for South West Water. I went along with it for a moment, but when she inquired about my satisfaction with my water bill, I quickly realised it wasn’t my cup of tea. When she pressed me if I truly wanted to partake in the survey, I politely declined. She simply said, “Alright then,” and promptly hung up. Quite the abrupt end, if you ask me!

Some woman called saying she was doing a survey for Thames Water. She wanted to visit my place to ask about a water leak we supposedly had (which we didn’t) and offered £50 as a bonus. I said no thanks because it sounded fishy. Why would they really need to come around? Shouldn't they just ask the questions over the phone? Feels like a trick to maybe get bank info, though I’m not entirely certain.

Got a call just now from some “watermelon research” lot saying I’d done a survey for National Rail. I went along with it and looked through my emails but found nothing. Then she said maybe I got it through the post. I told her I hadn’t received any post from them. Then she said, “No, no, it’d have been given to you at the station.” I said nope and hung up. Just a load of scammers really. Bit amusing, to be honest.

A woman rang me up, stating she was from Watermelon Research, supposedly surveying on behalf of LLoyds Bank regarding their customers' online habits and social media usage. Honestly, it was a right bore!

Seeing as I don’t even bank with LLoyds, I reckon she could've saved her breath! Better luck on the next call!

I received a rather tedious phone call from a woman who introduced herself as part of Watermelon Research. She insisted it was for a survey related to LLoyds Bank, probing about my usage of the internet and social media - honestly, it felt like I was stuck in a never-ending loop of mind-numbing questions. Spoke to a lady this time from Water Melon Research, asking me to do a survey for the parcel delivery watchdog, Ofcom. She said it’d only be about 15 minutes. I told her that’s too long and she said she’d ring me back in the New Year. Honestly, I’ll probably just tell her to shove off. Don’t really trust that lot; seems like market research and they’re just passing my details around to every courier company out there. My only real issue is with Parcel Force, but Ofcom doesn’t seem to look into them anyway.

I've been getting calls from a nearby number, 01233 510530, lately. Whenever I answer, there's just silence on the line. I checked the number using 1471 and it doesn't ring any bells. Since this is the second time they've called, I'm thinking it might be a scam. It's weird though, as my number is unlisted and supposed to be private. I've decided to block them now.

I rang them back and gave the lady on the other end a right earful. Told her I’m signed up to the TPS and I’d be reporting her to the ICO. I also mentioned that everyone in the UK has to stick to GDPR rules. She claimed they’re just doing market research, not marketing. I said I’m a financial adviser (which is true) and a solicitor (not quite, but I’ve done law studies), so she definitely wouldn’t want to cross me. Then I just ended the call 😄

Watermelon Research was incredibly rude! I asked to talk to our Managing Director but as soon as I said he wasn’t available, they just hung up on me! I used 1471 to get the number again and called back - honestly, it really winds me up when people just hang up like that! This time I got a recorded message directing me to another number for Customer Services. I called that and left a sharp message. Since we’re registered with the TPS, if they call again, I’m definitely reporting them. So frustrating!

Got a call from this number. BT Guardian answered, and the guy said his name was James Hobden (or something close) claiming he was from Hampshire County Council. He said it was market research, but the moment I realised he wasn’t actually with HCC I ended the call and blocked the number.

They’ve been persistent, ringing me several times over the past week. I’d strongly recommend steering clear of answering these calls!

When the call came through on BT Call Guardian, the caller wouldn’t say their name clearly, just mumbled some nonsense that I couldn’t make out. I let the answer machine pick it up to leave a message, but they just hung up instead. If they’d been legitimate, surely they’d have been upfront about who they were, and I’d have taken the call. No message was left either, which felt suspicious if they genuinely wanted to reach me. After seeing loads of reports about scam calls like this, I’ve now added the number to my block list.

I got a call from some company called Facts International. They wanted me to do a survey about how happy I am with my business bank account. After the survey began, not long in, they asked me about my business turnover. I told them I didn't really see why that question had anything to do with how pleased I am with the bank, so I wasn’t comfortable answering that. The person on the phone said they couldn’t carry on without that info. Honestly, I’m not all that impressed with the bank if this is the kind of thing they’ve paid for.
