Go on, keep them yapping. Spin a believable tale about a motoring mishap. Really stretch it out, if you can. Tune in to how they react when they think they’ve got something juicy on their hands. When they inevitably prod about any injuries, just drop the bomb: say there were 39 because you ploughed into a bus. Just hold your breath and relish the silence as the absurdity sinks in... You can almost hear the gears turning as they clamber to grasp that you’re having a laugh. Then, when you hear that click as they cut the line, it’s all over. Bet they won’t bother calling back again!

They asked if I’d been in a car crash or slipped up outside, then said something about tripping over a tiny grain of rice at Tesco before I just ended the call. Why do these scam calls keep coming? They've rung me quite a few times, but the first couple of calls, they said sorry to hear about my accident. I asked what accident they meant, and they said the one I supposedly had two years ago. The only accident I had was back in 1986, definitely not recently. I told them to remove my number from their list, which obviously they ignored. Now I've blocked them using my phone's auto reject feature, so they can keep calling all they want, it just won’t get through.
