Just keep chatting with them, spin a believable yarn about a car crash. Stretch it out as much as you can. Pay close attention to how they react when they reckon they’ve got you hooked. When they ask if anyone’s hurt, drop in that 39 people got hurt ‘cause you smashed into a bus. Wait for that quiet moment when they realise you’re winding them up, then listen out for the sound of the call ending. They never bother calling back after that.

They asked if I’d been in a car crash or slipped up outside, then said something about tripping over a tiny grain of rice at Tesco before I just ended the call. Why do these scam calls keep coming? They've rung me quite a few times, but the first couple of calls, they said sorry to hear about my accident. I asked what accident they meant, and they said the one I supposedly had two years ago. The only accident I had was back in 1986, definitely not recently. I told them to remove my number from their list, which obviously they ignored.
