Just got back and noticed a missed call from this number but no voicemail was left. I'm signed up with the TPS, so really they shouldn’t have been ringing me. After reading some comments here, I did a bit of digging - looks like a couple of those calls were probably scammers pretending to be from BMG, but there was also a message from HMRC saying they might use this number for their survey calls. So, seems these calls could be legit or a scam. Best thing is to be cautious and not share any personal info unless you’re 100% sure who’s on the other end!

Listen, folks... don’t jump to conclusions. Just 'cause it’s a cold call doesn’t automatically mean it’s a scam. The caller was from BMG, a legitimate research firm that does surveys for loads of different companies. If you’re not interested, just say "no thanks" nicely and move on. Got a call this morning (8/5/24) around 10.50 from someone saying they were doing a survey for the Government about people renting their homes. The bloke had a really thick Indian accent and kept referring to me as Mr followed by my first name, which felt a bit odd. Really unpleasant woman, wouldn’t accept a ‘no’ for an answer. Kept insisting on speaking to someone who could help, being very pushy. Got multiple calls from this number. Someone claimed to be from the council, asking for me by name and saying they were doing a survey. They said they got my number from the council. Told them I’d asked them to stop phoning me and if they didn’t, I’d report them. Feels like a scam to me with some dodgy motives. Just leave me alone and find a real job.

Woman said she was from some business trading company, wanted to talk about business rates and kept asking for the owner. When I asked if there was a number to call back on, she said they only call out and wouldn’t give a contact. She hung up quick after we wouldn’t share the owner’s availability. A woman rang saying she was from the Department of Business and Trade, said they’d tried calling before and were in the middle of a survey with us. She asked to speak to a manager. When I asked which manager she’d talked to, she couldn’t give a name. I told her I was surprised as we don’t normally take part in surveys, and then she just ended the call.

Been getting loads of calls and several voicemails on my mobile about some survey for repairs from the local council. They keep saying they'll call again over the next few days. I'm pretty sure the council only has my email and my landline, didn't know they had my mobile number too. Thought once the repairs were finished they’d consider it sorted and stop bothering me. They've done the leaky pipe and fixed the radiator valve, what else is there to go on about? Feels like they're just pestering me now.

I looked into this number a bit more and found out it’s actually linked to a market research firm called BMG. It shows up on different Gov.uk pages saying that they might reach out to you for various purposes. Seems legit and like it’s a company lots of government departments work with to gather feedback and improve their services.

Got a call supposedly from BMG Research, said it was for the Welsh Government and they even knew my company name. They rang a few times asking me to do a survey for the government. The lady sounded really polite and spoke well, sounded Asian. But when I looked up the number, it wasn’t the same as the official BMG contact and apparently people using this number have pretended to be from HMRC, DVLA and others... seemed pretty dodgy to me. I just politely said no and thanked her for calling.

When I asked which area in the North she meant, she said she couldn’t say unless I agreed to the survey. I declined, and she insisted it was really important and might have an impact on me. I told her it didn’t, and have since blocked the number.

Got a call from someone claiming to be from HMRC asking for the person who handles accounts. I told them it’s not me and to get in touch with our accountant instead. They said they’d make a note but didn’t ask for any info. Real HMRC is in Cumbernauld and calls come from numbers starting with 0333, so this was definitely a scam.
