My elderly mate got a call asking what brand his washing machine was (he said Zanussi), then they claimed to be from Zanussi Customer Support and insisted he needed to give his card info to sort out his extended warranty, which he dutifully did (though his warranty is actually with Domestic & General). I rang the number back, which had a Clitheroe area code, but it turns out the number isn’t real. How is it the UK phone system still lets these fake UK numbers be used to trick people? The caller’s accent sounded like they might've been from India.
