This is the second occasion in just 48 hours. Yesterday, someone rang claiming to be Alex. I asked him to confirm my name from his files, but he couldn’t provide it. When he called back today, he never gave his name but immediately started talking about how my loft insulation was out of date. I asked where he got that info from, and he said “the government had shared it along with your phone number.” I told him we live in a 500-year-old thatched cottage with no loft at all, and he just ended the call straight away……

This was definitely one of those Loft Insulation scams. The bloke sounded really posh, said he was from some “Green Deal” company based in Southeast London, and asked if I’d used the Government’s insulation schemes for my home. I told him my Building Inspector advised against cavity wall insulation for this place and recommended insulating the inner walls with plasterboard instead. After that, he didn’t want to know and just hung up. Sounds like a scam to me, so I’ve marked the number as Risky and blocked it to warn others.
