Got a text from 07546 530198 saying it's HSBC, giving a one-time password for a purchase at Dior.com. The message told me to ring their fraud team on 0115 706 0016 if I hadn’t made the transaction. Obviously, it’s dodgy so I’ve blocked and reported the number. Definitely looks like a scam.

Got a dodgy text claiming there was some dodgy payment to EDF Energy on my card, so I rang up the Co-op bank straight away. On the very same day, I also got another message about "strange activity" on my account. When I called 159 to check, they couldn't confirm anything was wrong though. Seems fishy to me.

Got a text that looked like it was from Virgin Money with a one-time code for Booking.com. What freaked me out was I actually used that card to pay Booking.com earlier the same day. So either they guessed it by chance or they’ve somehow got access to payment details they shouldn’t have. The message had dodgy grammar which raised my suspicions, plus I always look up unknown numbers - this one turned out to be a definite scam.

Reading the comments here really stopped me from replying to a text about suspicious activity on my card. Thought I’d add my bit to the thread for anyone else coming across this. Got a message from 07764274430 claiming to be from MBNA credit card company but I’m pretty certain it’s not legit. They wanted me to call 01157060026 using a one-time password for some Tesco transaction. Since it’s a Saturday night, I’m just leaving it till Monday to get in touch with MBNA’s fraud department. Meanwhile, I’ve blocked that 0776 number just to be safe.

Got a message saying it was HSBC telling me to ring them if I didn’t know a payment from Watches of Switzerland. Bit odd since I’d only just been browsing jewellery on the web. I rang back and she said something like it was Aztec or ether ads tech communications or sumthin, but couldn't make much sense of it. Sounds like the line's just full of rubbish callers. Nobody legit would be ringing for that dodgy scam company. Best just to ignore and not answer, cos they’ll likely just keep ringing from tons of different numbers.

Got a call from some dodgy bloke claiming he was from Carphone Warehouse. I mucked about with him for ages, haggling the price down from £40 a month to like £13, and asking for ridiculous extras that don’t exist. After a while I got bored and just told him I was having a laugh. Proper funny that.

There was loads of noise in the background like a busy call centre or something. The person said they were from Warehouse Clearance, but I've never heard a call centre that loud. They spoke really broken English and claimed my network was giving brilliant deals plus that Carphone Warehouse could end my 3 year contract early.
