Around 8:45 this morning, a woman with an Indian accent rang me up claiming to be from Microsoft. She insisted my PC had been hacked and was linked to some criminal activities by people abroad. She said they’d traced the software licence number and needed me to sit at my computer immediately to sort it out, or else they’d have no choice but to shut it down. I asked her how on earth that would work, and she just repeated they had my licence details. I played along for a while, acting worried, then finally called her out as a scammer and a fraud. She just ended the call right after that.

Got a call this morning around 9.45, sounded like one of those automated messages with an American lady’s voice. She said something about £300 being taken from my Visa account. Someone called me saying their name was Tony Wayne, but he spoke with a sort of Indian accent. He mentioned a cheque number for a government refund and told me to wait for a call from his manager. I got curious and searched the number online and found this website. The weird thing was, he already knew my full name, address, and even my date of birth, which made me pretty uneasy. Since then, I’ve been ringed a few times from 01217250176, which I didn’t pick up, and after looking it up too, it’s marked as risky by others.

I got a call from a woman with an Asian accent who said she was sending me a cheque to refund some bank fees, then she asked for my date of birth. I asked her which bank she thought I'd been paying fees to, and she ended up hanging up on me.

Got a call from someone named Brian Jones, saying they wanted my bank details to send me a cheque for some supposed overcharge from the government. When I asked why he needed my bank info, he just said it was for the cheque. I told him if he was really sending a cheque, he shouldn't need my bank details anyway and that it all sounded fishy. Ended up just hanging up on him.

Had a call from someone named Brian Jones, whose accent seemed strongly Asian. He claimed I was owed a cheque from the government due to banks charging too much and asked for my date of birth and which bank I wanted the cheque paid into. I found it odd since you need to pay a cheque in yourself, so I asked why he needed that info and told him I thought it was a con before hanging up. My bank confirmed it was definitely a scam and they've now put a note on my account to keep me safe from these dodgy calls.
