Got a dodgy call from 02 again, this time from Sheffield. Earlier this year, I got caught out by a scammer pretending to be from 02, but the number was actually from Leeds. It was a right nightmare trying to get my 02 account sorted and put back to normal afterwards. Honestly, it's so annoying that these scammers seem to have found a way to get hold of 02 account details!

When I picked up the call, there was a slight delay of a few seconds before anything happened, which instantly made me suspect it was a robocall. I could just tell it was gearing up to put me through to a real person. Without a second thought, I ended the call straight away.

A couple of comments down explain ways to help reduce these scams and why just blocking might not be enough. Reporting them takes a bit of time but it’s no harder than searching for info and sharing it here. The police’s fraud reporting system doesn’t even ask for your personal info. It won’t fix things overnight, but right now the police don’t really know how big a problem this is, so they can’t properly respond. Your MP might give a rather ‘interesting’ reply, but unless lots of people report these calls and messages, nothing will change to put an end to it.

They’ll try to entice you with a supposed promotion-something like a 30% discount off your account-and then, if you mention having an O2 account, they’ll claim they need to verify it.
