A guy called me, sounded Asian and said his name was John. Told me I’d won a bunch of stuff, like a holiday and free flights. Asked me to verify my name, postcode, and age bracket, which he somehow already knew. Then he asked if I wanted the prizes and a special discount card. I said, "I guess so," and added “Believe that if you want.” There was dead silence after that. Then he said he’d pass me onto his manager, but I told him straight up it was a scam and said goodbye. He protested with “No, ma’am,” but I just hung up.

I received a rather strange call today from a bloke who somehow knew my name right off the bat. He went on about how, based on my postcode, I had been selected to receive a discount card for all the leading supermarkets. But then he dropped the bombshell - to activate this so-called card, he required my 16-digit credit or debit card number to charge a measly penny, supposedly to verify my identity. It was clear as day that this was a dodgy scheme, so I promptly hung up.
