A bloke from outside Europe called me up and asked for me by name. I checked with 1471 and it's THIS NUMBER. How come BT or the TPS are letting this number go on sending scam calls???

I’ve been without internet for a whole month now, so I was almost tempted to trust this bloke. He knew my full name, address, and postcode - though he messed up the last letter. I told him I’d call back, but he refused to give me a number and said he could prove he was legit since he knew so much about me. I kept saying I’d ring him back and he finally left me alone. Had a foreign accent too.

This number rang me earlier today (02/06/17). When I answered, a woman just said "Goodbye" and then hung up straight away. It’s happened a few times before, but usually it’s followed by a load of strange calls. I reckon it’s connected to a recent call from 08776 691116. A woman with an accent told me I’d overpaid a BT bill and asked me to confirm my bank details for a refund. When I rang BT afterwards, they told me it wasn’t from them at all.

This number has called me about four times over the past week (that’s according to 1471). It was a bloke with an Asian accent who struggled a lot to understand or get his point across. He said he was from "BT Technical Services", but he didn’t know any of my info and claimed there was some big fault on my BT internet that needed fixing right away, asking me to log in. He came across as quite rude and very pushy. I told him to buzz off. Also, I reckon 005909 isn’t a full number or something.

I've received quite a few calls from these con artists today. They claimed they were ringing regarding an issue with my BT services, but oddly enough, they had no clue who I was. When I pressed them for my details, they abruptly hung up! On the third call, feeling fed up, I decided to end the conversation myself, but they were cheeky enough to leave the line connected. I had to reach out to BT to sort the mess out.

Got a call from someone called Sam Morgan, sounded quite Asian. He said he would send me a letter about the issues I’ve been having because I’m obviously sick of getting calls from BT tech folk with dodgy reasons. He’s spot on, I really am fed up. But it feels like no one cares, and all BT suggested was to change my phone number, despite me being on the TPS list.

I got a call from a lady saying she was 'Nancy Smith' from the BT I/T team. Her accent was quite strong, sounded Asian. When I asked where she was calling from, she said London. I then asked for my BT account number, and she said she didn’t know as she was in the "I/T Department." I told her to check with her BT mates, find my account number, and then email me about any tech problems (BT has my email). She just hung up. The number that showed was 005909.

Yesterday, a woman called me and asked if I could spare two minutes, then suddenly she said, "Thank you for answering the call" like it was some sort of trick! Then today, I got a call from 005909 - some Asian bloke kept going on about my BT broadband, saying hackers were breaking through my connection and it was super risky. He kept telling me to switch on my computer but was getting really frustrated since I couldn’t catch what he was saying most of the time. In the end, I just said no and hung up.

Got a call claiming to be from this number. The guy used the word 'malacious' and I told him nice job making up a new word. He looked confused like I didn't get what 'malacious' meant. Then he started getting annoyed, called me a bloody idiot and asked if I even 'leave' (he said it like 'leave') in this world. I told him I reckon we don't 'leave' in the same world. After a bit, he got irritated and hung up.

Got a call earlier claiming to be from "the BT"! When I told the guy that it’s just BT, no "the" in front, he swore at me and told me to stop bothering him. Sounded like an Asian guy named Mike Dawson. I can handle stuff like this, but not sure how my dad would take it.

Got a call from 005909 earlier today, some bloke claiming to be from BT saying there was an issue with my broadband and it’d be disconnected soon. They asked me to log in so they could sort it out, told em ‘no chance in hell’ and just ended the call. Proper dodgy business, really puts Asians in a bad light. Total scammers, honestly.

Got a call from an Indian man, name was Javid Patel. He claimed to be from BT and said my internet would be disconnected for 15 days. When I told him I didn't believe that, he just hung up. Checked with 1471 and the number came up as 005909. Had a couple more calls from that number but I didn’t pick up.

I didn’t want to share that and told them I’d report the call since I’m on the TPS list. The guy, who sounded like James William with an Asian accent, started getting rude, so I just ended the call.

Got calls from this number yesterday claiming to be BT. Since we'd been having issues with our landline and broadband, I played along for a bit before trying to end the call. They must've rung about ten times in total. Every time we hung up, they just called right back. Eventually, my husband said if they rang once more, he'd report them to the police. Such a massive hassle and totally stressful.

Got a call earlier claiming to be from BT in Warrington saying my PC had a virus that would block my internet. I asked for my BT account number, but the woman couldn’t provide it. She insisted she had my name, address and postcode so it had to be legit. Yeah, right. She wanted me to log into my computer so she could 'fix' the issue - sounded like she wanted control instead. The thing is, loads of others have reported this number (005909) here as making fake BT calls. Why isn’t BT cracking down on this yet?

Phone rang, bloke claimed to be from BT and said my computer was in major danger if I didn’t do what he said! He gave a name, Michael, and some kind of ID number. Told him I’d ring back - funny thing, he couldn’t even say ‘Michael’ properly, which isn’t a hard name - maybe an unusual accent or something. Didn’t fall for it though, guess I’m just a bit suspicious!

Somebody rang me saying they were from British Telecom, told me my internet would be cut off for 3 days. They wanted me to switch my laptop on but I told them I don’t own one. The caller, who had an Indian or Pakistani accent, got a bit confused and asked if I had any other gadgets I could use to get online. I told them no, I haven’t got any.

Got two calls within 5 minutes, different voices but sounded like the same hectic call centre. They claimed to be from BT saying my internet would be disconnected in 2 hours for a week. I asked a few questions, but his replies seemed off, so I asked for his direct number, manager's name and extension. He gave me a 020 number, but it proved fake. When I called back, the caller ID showed 005909. Looks like they've been involved in phishing for cash. I've informed the BT security team about it.

Got a call from someone claiming he was with BT, even gave me a London address, a name, and some ID number. He asked me to hold down the windows key and hit R, probably trying to get remote access to my pc. I said no chance and ended the call. Just hang up, don’t trust it!

Got two calls today, both claiming to be from BT saying my internet would cut off in a couple of hours. The first bloke said his name was Robin (yeah, right) and gave me a number 02034813030 when I asked. The second caller’s number was something weird like 005909. I rang BT to double check just to be safe, but they didn’t seem too fussed. When I acted confused on the phone, the second caller just hung up on me.

This 'lady' claiming to be Jennifer Smith from BT rang me about my internet supposedly downloading viruses and malware. Total rubbish. She called me twice in under an hour - missed the first, but checked the number with 1471, both times the same. Got really defensive when I told her I don’t have a computer or internet and live out in the middle of nowhere in Scotland. :) I reckon it’s harassing and unsafe but I’ll mark it as Dangerous.

Received a call from abroad claiming to be from BT. Since I actually work at BT, I asked for his ID number. He just rattled off some random digits that don’t match the ID format all BT staff use. When I pointed this out, he swore he was a technician and had a different kind of ID. Totally false. As soon as I told him I knew better, he freaked out and ended the call. BE WARNED - THIS IS DEFINITELY A SCAM!

It felt as though the caller was situated in a bustling train station or some similarly vibrant environment. After I greeted them with a friendly "hello," there was utter silence on the other end. They disconnected the call just a few minutes later without uttering a word. Quite odd, really!

When I couldn’t follow, they put me through to a bloke who sounded just as convincing. He started telling me to visit some website to fix it, so I quickly hung up. I did a 1471 check and got the number 005909. I’m going to report it to the fraud team tomorrow.
