I received a call purporting to be from BT, stating that my internet service was at risk of being cut off. They prompted me to press 1 for BT, or 2 for other enquiries. I went ahead and pressed 1, only to be met with a cacophony of background chatter. That’s when I decided to hang up, convinced it was nothing more than a scam!

Some bloke with an American accent rang and said he was from BT. He asked me to press 1 if I was with BT, or 2 if I wasn’t.

I got a call from a bloke speaking with a really thick Indian accent, claiming to be some kind of "British Telecom tech". He said my phone and internet had been "hacked" or something and that they were about to cut my connection off. Then he tried to get me to "press 1 to prevent the disconnection." I just hung up straight away.

I rang BT straight away and they told me it wasn’t from their end. But then, a few hours after, my mobile’s Wi-fi just stopped working. To get it back, I had to put my router password in all over again which made me a bit uneasy. Should I be worried about this?

Got a call from this number around 3.10 in the afternoon. It was just another one of those automated messages like the others I've had before.

I had the exact same encounter as the previous user. I decided to end the call abruptly. The number appears on the LED screen as 0800 instead of 000800, which could easily lead someone to be misled. Not great news at all!

Heard an American voice leaving a message that said the line will be cut off soon and to press 1 if it’s BT or press 2 for any other network. Sounded like a recorded thing.

I just got a phone call and the message sounded exactly like what others have mentioned here.

Totally a scam call. They said my BT internet was at risk and would be cut off because of some security breach. Sounds just like the other stories I’ve read here. I’ve gone ahead and blocked the number now.

Definitely a scam, don’t trust it.

Just got a call from this number today and I've gone ahead and blocked it. It's weird it managed to get through the telephone preference service though. Been looking at other comments about it, quite a few ppl had similar experiences.

I got a call from 000800800150 claiming there was a security breach with BT and that our service would be disconnected if we didn’t reply. Totally didn’t buy it!

Over the last couple of days, I’ve gotten four voicemails all saying something about my internet being hacked or compromised. Pretty annoying!

Got a call from this number at 1:32 pm on 13/04/18, claiming our internet was hacked and they needed to control our computer remotely to sort it. We told the guy we don’t even use BT for our phone line, but he insisted all lines belong to BT. Obviously, I didn’t let them anywhere near my computer. I checked with my internet provider and they confirmed it’s a scam. The Telephone Preference Service also flagged it as a fraud attempt. I’ve reported this number to the police already. Be careful, these scammers are just trouble, total rubbish.

I got a ring from this number earlier, saying our internet was about to be disconnected because of some security breach in California. Looks like they're still up and running, that’s for sure.

Got a call from this number earlier, with some pre-recorded message in an American accent claiming my internet would get cut off straight away. I just hung up and decided to block it. Honestly, this feels more than just annoying - it seems pretty dodgy and possibly even against the law!

Had a call from 000800800150 at around 3:45pm today, saying my PC was hacked or something. But my wife already sorted it all out back on 12/04/2018. Felt like a scam to me.

Got a call earlier saying my internet was going to be cut off, then they wanted me to press 1 for one thing or 2 for another. I didn’t press anything and they just ended the call. Honestly, these kind of calls should be stopped altogether.

Got a call from this number earlier, and it was one of those recorded messages saying it was from BT, warning my internet would be disconnected soon. Like someone else mentioned, it’s really suspicious. I used BT’s 1572 service to block it, but it feels like more needs to be done to stop these annoying calls. You'd think nowadays they should be able to track where these come from easily. What’s worse is it looks almost identical to the real BT customer service number except for the international prefix, which is just confusing and concerning for folks.

This number has been bugging me for months, some American woman calling to say my internet's going to get cut off today because it’s been hacked in California. When will this mess finally get sorted? It’s driving me mad!

Just like the anonymous caller mentioned earlier, I received a dodgy phone call claiming to be from BT. They informed me that there was a breach in my internet security and that my service would be cut off. I was prompted to press 1 for BT assistance or 2 if I was with another provider. Out of curiosity, I pressed 2 to see what would unfold - though I suspect the outcome would have been identical had I chosen 1. It connected me to some 'online engineer' - at which point I decided to end the call! My internet is still functioning perfectly fine, surprisingly enough!

I received a call where there was nothing but silence on the other end, and just as I was about to greet the caller, they abruptly disconnected. I’m a bit worried that they might be trying to check on my unlisted number.

This afternoon, I received a rather peculiar call from this number. It was a recorded message warning me that my Internet connection would be terminated later today due to some alleged breach in California. I was instructed to press 1 if I was with BT or 2 for any other provider. The same American woman's voice, which had been incessantly ringing my phone a few weeks back with a dire countdown of sorts, was back again. Those earlier calls were laced with ever more menacing tones, I assure you. I made an attempt to lodge a complaint, but the Internet Fraud team advised me to approach the local constabulary, who seemed utterly uninterested in my plight.

Just got a call from 000800800150 - looks almost exactly like the BT number but with 2 extra zeros tacked on at the front. A recorded message said my broadband was gonna be cut off cos it’d been hacked in California or something, total rubbish. Since the number is so close to BT’s, you’ve gotta watch out or you might fall for it.

I received a phone call from someone claiming to represent BT Openreach. They went on about issues with our broadband connection stemming from the local exchange. After that, they requested that I sit down at my computer and search on Google. At that moment, I decided it was best to end the call. It struck me as reminiscent of the "Windows Computer" con - quite the same tactics scammers usually employ. Be cautious!

Right, so that number rang me again and it was actually about sending out a new fibre optic cable for my internet. Seems like they're targeting those who might not be as tech savvy, so check in with any older relatives or friends to see if they’ve had this call. It's frustrating that these numbers are still active after nearly a whole year - they really should be blocked.

I received a rather poor-quality call from someone claiming to be with BT Open Reach, saying there were issues in the vicinity and asking if I could check my broadband speed. The woman had an accent that sounded quite Indian. The moment I expressed my doubts about her authenticity, she hung up on me! Oddly enough, this call managed to get through my CallGuardian system. It was the first unsolicited call I'd had since I acquired this phone!

I received a call from someone named "Mark" claiming to be with BT. He mentioned that there had been issues affecting internet speeds in my area and wanted me to carry out a speed test to determine if their fixes had worked. I graciously turned down his request, noticing his noticeable accent from the Indian subcontinent.

Yesterday I got a phone call from this number, and the guy on the line sounded Indian. He said he was from Openreach (BT) and started talking about my internet speed. I wasn’t convinced so I just hung up. Later, I called BT myself to see if they’d tried to contact me, and surprise, surprise, they hadn’t. I noticed the number was almost the same as the real Openreach one, just with an extra couple of zeroes at the start. No doubt lots of people might fall for this since it looks so much like the real BT Openreach number. That’s why I had to double-check with BT.
