I had a ring from the number 844-801-9992 today. They didn’t bother to leave a message, which has set off alarm bells for me, so I’ve decided against returning the call.

Beware, this number is a total scam, attempting to extract your National Insurance number and finances. Additionally, I've identified a few other dodgy numbers associated with this one: 844019993, 8887442987, 7025082105, 8552641673, 8775239473, 2145362395, and 8448019992. They’ve all been linked over the last three months. They keep promising to remove my number from their list, yet not a single time have they followed through. I’ve received more than fifty calls from them! I don’t have a student loan, never have had one, and nobody in my circle does either.

This is the third instance of this phone number popping up in my messages. I rang them this morning, and they claimed I was behind on a student loan by 35 days. While I do have student loans, I’m currently managing them through a servicer called Nelnet. What raised my suspicions was when she referred to a 'plus loan.' When I queried what that meant, she explained it's a loan taken out by parents, to which I was rather taken aback; I’ve never had one of those during my entire education. Just a word of caution-I'm starting to believe this might be a scam, and I’m rather anxious now since I mistakenly shared my social security number with them.
