84222 Summary (Read all comments)

Phone number ☎️ 84222 👆 is reported as a persistent source of numerous unsolicited premium-rate text messages, often sent in rapid succession and charging users close to £1 per message. Many victims have experienced substantial unexpected bills, with some reporting over 100 chargeable texts within minutes, causing costs exceeding £100. Complaints highlight difficulties in obtaining refunds from mobile providers who sometimes direct users to the third-party company responsible, known as Moblix Media or IMI, with a history of fines. Blocking the number on the handset alone proves ineffective, as charges continue until network-level premium texting is barred. Users are advised to promptly contact their provider to impose spend caps and block premium services, avoid replying to messages, and report incidents to regulatory bodies such as the Phone-Paid Services Authority and ICO. Vigilance over monthly bills is essential to detect and dispute these fraudulent charges.

I ended up ringing Three and they gave me a number to try, 03300586508. The first time I called, they told me they had nothing to do with the 84222 number, but on the second try (same person actually answered, weirdly), they said they did know that number. They gave me an email to send over a screenshot of the texts along with proof it's my account. After I logged back into My Three, I saw the credit had gone through (£51, I had loads of £1 calls made within just 6 minutes).

Got a load of texts all at once from this number on Friday 25th September and Vodafone has charged me £1.00 for each one. They’re now refusing to give me a refund. Best to block this number, it’s definitely a scam.

84222 kept sending me texts like crazy, 20 times in 3 minutes. Each one cost me £0.833, so by the end my phone bill shot up to £16.66. Feels like a total rip off. Really annoyed about this.

84222 bombarded me with loads of messages, nonstop. O2 ended up adding £120 to my phone bill because of it. I genuinely thought someone had hacked my phone. Surely this shouldn't be happening?

44700032162 seems to have sent me about 19 premium texts at £1 each on the 25th of Sept, or so my phone network told me. Thankfully, I have a limit on my bill otherwise it might’ve cost me a lot more. I’m now having a word with Virgin about sorting this out.

84222 just took £22 straight from my pay as you go credit (giffgaff using O2’s network); I've flagged it up to O2 and now waiting to hear back from them about sorting it out. Not happy at all :-(

Just like others here, I got more than 100 texts from 84222 on the evening of Friday 25th September. I immediately blocked and deleted the number, but was shocked to find a £94.96 charge on my O2 bill. I rang O2 Customer Support and they said they’re investigating and that I’ll get a refund soonish. Honestly, I’m pretty disappointed with how they handled it :-(

I only realised this when my data and spend limit got maxed out. I rang O2 to alert them about it. Fortunately, I was only billed £4.16 - but that’s quite a bit for just one day, especially when you don’t even get to see the texts or fees until the bill arrives. The messages seemed to come from 84222, listed as TAP2BILL. This is really risky and totally against the law. Companies like this should be shut down, and the people behind it locked up and their money seized.

Got bombarded with 99 texts in just a few mins on Friday 26th Sept from 84222. Had to block the number and flagged it as spam to 7726. O2 charged me £25, said they’ll give it back as a goodwill thing but then went on about me somehow signing up - which I definitely didn’t! My phone's registered with TPS. I’ve emailed the company causing the hassle, asking how they got my number and told them either refund me or I’ll report them to PSA. Don’t really trust the no-reply text they sent saying they’ll refund.

Got flooded with 32 texts last Friday all within a minute, which quickly maxed out my spending limit. My first call to O2 didn’t get me anywhere, but on the second try, the person I spoke with was much more understanding - I reckon they’d finally seen how bad it was. They’ve now blocked premium and paybyphone numbers on my line. I’d definitely recommend everyone else to do this too. Just blocking the number on your phone won’t work properly, cos the charges still come through, you just won’t see the messages.

Just to add to what I said earlier, I've got a relative who works as a judge, so I'm gonna check if there’s any legal action we can take - maybe even a class action for a decent payout - or if there's any chance of criminal charges being filed. I’ll update with what I find out.

My missus got like 70 odd texts from this number, all costing her extra on her Vodafone contract. We told Vodafone about it. This has been happening for days now and still no one has blocked the number or found who’s behind it. Feels like they don’t really care at all?

Got blasted with 25 premium texts from FREEBEE all within a minute. Each one cost me 83p, and I’ve never even dealt with them before. Just like others said, this feels totally like stealing money, and pretty obvious at that. They sent me a message saying "it was a mistake, we’ll give you a refund," but I’m really suspicious that’s just another trick. Already reported it to PSA and Ofcom.

This has nothing to do with track and trace, so dunno why folks are pointing fingers there. I don’t use it and still got caught out. These scammers have been active since 2014 and been fined before too. Good thing I’ve got some safeguards or it might’ve been a lot worse. Already reported it to the psa and my phone company.

I got in touch with Three about the fees and they told me this. The company billing you is 'IMI' and you can reach them at [email protected][###], to sort out the charges and request a refund. If they won't give you your money back, you can then contact the Phone-Paid Services Authority, which oversees UK premium rate services, to file a complaint. Got charged £60 for 60 texts sent between two phones. Three told me to ring them up about it. When I did, their office was supposedly "closed". The company’s called Moblix Media and I heard they've had trouble before and been fined £100K. They were already being shut down, so I reckon this might be their last scam before they disappear to some tax haven like the Cayman Islands. Three said they’re looking into it and will get back to me soon.

Got 120 messages in 40mins and got charged 83p for each! My phone bill shot up to £100. Blocking from my end didn’t do much, they kept coming through and the charges kept piling. O2 was no help at all, told me I gotta deal with the scammers myself to get any refund. The firm’s called Moblix Media. They pulled the same stunt back in 2014 and got fined £10,000 by the ombudsman. Bet they raked in way more than that just last night.

This number kept sending me loads of messages, like 63 in just a couple of minutes! I only had my phone contract active and suddenly, there’s a random £63.50 added on top of my usual £69 bill. Proper annoying!

Got like 55 messages from one number. Proper pain in the neck and how they reckon that’s alright is beyond me?? Blocked it straight away. Gonna report it to O2 for sure.

Just got hit with 15 messages all in one go and they charged me £15 for it. Now I’m stuck waiting to see how Vodafone plans to sort this mess out.

This number was spamming me nonstop, like 30 texts every second until I just blocked it - honestly, don’t bother replying, just block straight away!

Just had 9 calls from the north east, bit strange. Where are these texts coming from? Feels like someone might be selling those track and trace numbers or something.

Been stuck on hold with Vodafone for like 2 hours now, was lucky I had a £10 spend cap which I just dropped to £0. Gotta be something to do with track and trace cos I haven’t downloaded anything else. Proper ridiculous!

I just got bombarded with multiple texts in less than a minute. How on earth is this legal? They quit only after I hit my limit.

84222 My mate just got hit with a massive £50+ bill coz of loads of texts from this number coming in one after another. Seriously, block it!

I kept getting loads of texts from this number and each one ended up costing me until I reached the max I was allowed to spend. It was really annoying.

I just had 9 calls in a row from this annoying number, all within about two minutes! I was pretty close to my phone the whole time too. Managed to block it quickly, but it’s gotten to the point where I’m seriously thinking about getting rid of my 3 phone line altogether if this keeps happening. It’s getting a bit much.

I just got charged £16 after only 10 minutes on the phone. Rang Vodafone about it and it really seems like some dodgy scam is happening here.

Those texts from 84222 keep coming and really should be blocked by your network once you spot them. Just reply with STOP to avoid getting charged for that message, but also get your provider to block them so you don’t get slugged again - they cost £1 each, and that adds up fast! Honestly, there should be a law against this kind of thing.

Got strange texts charging me a quid each time. It was on Vodafone’s end but since it's a third-party thing, they wouldn't do any refunds or look into it as fraud. All I could do was block premium texts. Such a pain!

There's some dodgy blokes from Spinney Hills, Evington Leicester, with a group of lads from Pakistani background causing trouble. Absolute scammers, especially this one guy from Leicester called K#### Q####. Stay clear of them!

Got charged with some premium fees from a dodgy number, didn’t get any texts though. Vodafone told me they’d blocked it, but turns out they hadn’t. Make sure you keep an eye on your bills monthly!

I think it's like a poll or something. When you text open18, it replies saying your vote has been counted or registered. Bit weird, really.

Got a daft message saying I've made it to the next round. Bloody annoying they want me to pay to text STOP. Can someone explain where my GDPR consent is in all this?

No clue at all. So frustrating!

I put this number on my block list about a year back, yet over the last few weeks, I've noticed my credit sneaking down by a pound here and there, usually once every week. Just blocking them doesn’t seem to cut it. You gotta text back STOP to actually get it to quit. Still not sure if that’s gonna fix things for good though.

I've sent them an email to ask about getting a refund since the phone line doesn't work at all.

I’ve got a blocked number on my phone so I don’t get any texts from it, but they’re still charging me 84p every time it tries to send one. Total rip-off.

Got random texts charging me 84p each, never agreed to any subs. I’ve sent STOP to 84222 and tried ringing their support line but there’s no one to talk to. Proper frustrating!

Got two of these messages, one in August and another in September. I contacted Vodafone about it, and now they’ve stopped all premium rate texts on my phone and even gave me back the £2 they charged (£1 each). Honestly, make sure you go through your statements every month - you never know what’s sneaking in!

No idea how this number got mine because I never signed up anywhere, but received a message about some discounts. I quickly texted them back with STOP, but then noticed the initial text cost me £5! Ridiculous!

I've been getting unwanted texts from this number, and each one costs me £1 to receive! Really annoying. Just had to block it to stop the charges.
