I encountered a remarkably similar situation recently. A call came through from someone claiming to represent Dell, alleging that my system had encountered two registry issues. They proposed conducting a diagnostic scan, but the range of questions they posed made me feel quite uneasy. Fast forward a couple of weeks, and, out of sheer curiosity driven by some troubling signs on my computer, I decided to return the call. To ensure my anonymity, I withheld my number. They picked up, still claiming to be Dell, but I swiftly claimed it was a wrong number and ended the call. A minute later, I received another call from a different number with a 631 area code, asking for me and inquiring if I'd just attempted to reach out to them. Quite dubious, if you ask me! I absolutely refuse to share any personal details unless it’s clear they are associated with a reputable organisation.
