Got a suspicious call claiming to be from CIBC about my Visa. Definitely felt dodgy, sounded like a scam to me. Would watch out if you get a call like that!

It sounded dodgy to me at first, so I decided to ring up CIBC directly instead. This one seemed legit but felt a bit off.

Total scam, pure and simple! I don’t even own a credit card from CIBC!!!

I’ve had to deal with the so-called CIBC fraud department a few times over the past couple of years, and after ringing them multiple times and waiting ages, I can confirm it’s genuinely them. The problem is that their contact number is nearly impossible to find on their website, which is just ridiculous. Forget scrolling through the site - it’s a nightmare to navigate. I ended up googling their fraud contact because their site is practically useless and looks like it was made by someone who barely passed web design. When you’re stressed and trying to report something urgent, like I was, it’s a nightmare to find their number. If you’ve got any dealings with them, tell them how poor their communication is with customers on these really serious security issues. Maybe then they might improve. Honestly, with this kind of digital communication mess, I’m seriously thinking about switching banks altogether.

if u get a call from 242-225 or see that number pop up, just be careful

they might ask u to confirm some transactions to see if it's real. they never actually want ur card details or personal stuff tho.

loads of ppl are too silly to ignore these calls and end up with CIBC freezing their card for online stuff.

one big thing is your credit limit might be low and once u use a certain part of it, it triggers these alerts

scammers try to get ur info but they usually don’t succeed, so don’t panic!

This happened to me as well. I checked the number and it turned out to be CIBC’s fraud alert department.

Somebody called saying there was fraud on my card.

I can confirm this call was genuinely from CIBC’s fraud prevention team. If you’re unsure, just ring the number printed on the back of your card like they said in their voicemail. Better to be safe and double-check directly with them!

First off, make sure to hit up the BBB and let them know about this number. After that, pass the info along to the police. Finally, you should also inform the CRTC. Don't hand over any details or personal info to whoever's calling. Just keep your guard up and say NOTHING.

Absolutely a scam, was trying to get my credit card details, total rip off!

Got an email claiming there was some dodgy activity on my CIBC card ending with the last four digits - which actually matched mine. The email told me to ring 1-800-267-5193. Honestly, just ignore it. It sounded like something straight out of that Dr. Evil character in Austin Powers, made me chuckle!

Got a call about credit card fraud or something, but I'm not convinced it's legit yet - gonna double-check it later. Ended up cutting them off halfway through the call.

I got a call from this number saying the last four digits of my credit card had been involved in some kind of fraud. Something felt off though when they told me to ring them back straight away but from a different number. So I ended up just blocking that number altogether.

Got a call from someone claiming to be CIBC, but it was obviously a phishing attempt. Be careful!
