I got calls like that too, with a Chinese accent. They rang me about 8 times before i answered. The bloke said his name was Charles Butler and it was something to do with the IRS. I asked if he had any official letter from them. He just said we’d face serious trouble and then he ended the call. Definitely a massive scam...

Got a call from someone with an Indian accent today. They told me I had a court order for my arrest and said I owed just 3200. I was really scared at first, but then I came across this site and realised it was probably a scam.

They rang me four times all in one day. Eventually, they left a voicemail with a strong Indian accent, talking about some IRS problem. A couple of days after, I tried calling them back but all I got was silence and a beep. Lucky me, they didn’t answer. I don’t get how they could have known about a recent IRS dispute I’m dealing with - was it just a random scare tactic? Later on, I checked the number 585-466 and it turns out it’s from Angelica, New York, not Washington DC like they claimed.

Has the FBI done anything about these scammers yet? I bet loads of people who don’t bother looking them up online might’ve given out personal details or credit card info trying to settle fake debts.

What a numpty, calling me up with that heavy Indian accent. The number they rang from was 585-376-0758, and when I called back, it was 585-466-0174. Honestly, hope a swarm of angry ants take up residence in their bum and start gnawing at their haemorrhoids!

Got a call from someone called Matthew Johnson, sounded like he was Indian and was after my missus about some IRS issue. He refused to say where he was calling from and kept demanding to talk to her, claiming loads of letters had been sent. When I kept asking, he said there were emails too. I told him to send an official letter from the government, and suddenly he got rude, saying it wasn’t my problem. When I said I’d check with the local police fraud unit, he just hung up on me. Typical scam stuff.

It's obvious a scam, all about tricking folks into handing over personal details. If you think you might owe the IRS for real, their legit number is 800-829-1040 - that’s who you should get in touch with.

I received a call like this too, where they told me to ring back on 5854660174. Earlier today, a man left a message on my voicemail but his accent was so thick I had a hard time catching what he said. The main things I caught were something about the IRS, owing taxes and to call that number straight away. When I rang 5854660174 again, nobody answered, just some kind of beep like voicemail but no spoken message. Big thanks to everyone who warned about this number being dodgy.

I got a call from an Indian lady who was going on about some supposed debt my wife supposedly owes to the IRS. She kept pushing me to ring a number and speak to a bloke called Kevin Johnson straight away. I phoned the number and this guy goes on about owing over £2,000. I told him my wife hasn't worked in more than 20 years, but he just kept threatening me with jail time, a massive fine of £160,000, and said the police were already on their way. When I kept questioning him, he just hung up. BE WARNED - they’ll try anything to freak you out!

Some bloke with an Indian accent called me, said he was from the IRS and gave the name David Cruise, which sounded totally made up. I asked him why the IRS would be working on a Saturday, and he got a bit dodgy. Then he told me to get in touch with someone called Adam Spencer right away, giving me the number 585-466-0174. Definitely don't share any personal details with these people.

I just answered a call from a bloke who sounded like he was from somewhere in the Middle East. He claimed I had a tax problem with the IRS and told me to grab some paper and a pen to note down some contact details. He gave me a name, "Kevin Johnson," who supposedly was an Investigation Officer, and told me to ring him on (585)466-0174 extension 101 for more info. The guy even asked me to repeat the number back to make sure he got it right. I told him I’d wait for an official letter instead and said this sounded like a scam. I nicely said thanks but no thanks before hanging up.

Got a call from someone saying he was David from the IRS debt collection department or something like that. He claimed I owed money, which is not true, and demanded $4000. He threatened legal action like arrest and court if I didn’t pay up. He wanted my bank details too, which made me suspicious. After a quick search online, I saw loads of people reporting the same number for scams. Definitely a fake caller trying to scam folks.
