Got a call from someone sayin they were from "Microsoft Windows" sayin I'd got some dodgy or illegal software downloaded. I ignored it at first but then I told the bloke I was recording the chat for the fraud squad. The guy on the phone, some Asian bloke called Tom or sumthin, kept insisting he just wanted to help me. Totally a scam! Don’t bother pickin up if you get a call like that.

I got a call from someone claiming to be Microsoft, saying there were errors on my PC (which there really aren’t) and asking me to open certain files so they could “show” me the issues. Bit dodgy since my computer’s running just fine and I doubt Microsoft has my number anyway. Next time they ring, I’m gonna have my actual IP address and Windows product ID ready on hand. If they’re legit, they should be able to tell me those details, right? If they do, I might humour them just to see which files they want me to open and suss out what kind of personal info they’re after. This really smells like a scam to me. Microsoft wouldn’t randomly call people up from call centres, telling them their PC has problems and offering free fixes out of the blue. Honestly, if you’re not familiar with your computer’s files and folders, best to just hang up if you get a call like this.
