Got a call from a guy with an Asian accent saying they were looking into an accident that supposedly involved someone in my family from the past three years. Didn’t even bother to ask for my name or who I was. He claimed I was legally required to provide info. I just told him to send me something by post instead.

I found out about this thing called "Choose to Refuse" which lets you block calls from up to 10 numbers. After you get the unwanted call, you just dial a 5-digit code and it blocks the last number that rang you. Usually, your phone company will have this option, and from what I know, it doesn’t come with any extra charges. At least with my provider, it’s completely free.

Got a ring from this number around 9:15 in the morning. An Asian lady, said she was calling from Microsoft or something. Felt dodgy straight away so I just ended the call. Pretty sure it’s one of those scams.

Just like other people mentioned here, I got woken up in the middle of the night by a call I didn’t pick up. Later, when I dialled 1471, it came back with this same number. After that, someone told me to put the phone down.

In the background, it seemed like there were loads of people chatting away like it was some kind of busy office. I dialled 1471 to check the number and the person on the line just told me to hang up right away. This all happened around midday.

Got a random call and when I checked with 1471, it showed the call came from this number. Clearly, someone’s tampering with the system and it’s about time it got sorted. I would’ve thought the phone companies could fix this easily, but maybe they’re cashing in on these annoying calls and don’t want to crack down. An inquiry is definitely needed, but given how they've handled things before, I’m not expecting much to change.

Twice this morning I’ve had calls from this number, each time they were looking for someone else. It’s really irritating.

Whenever my folks get back, they usually use 1471 to check who called. This number popped up recently, and after the 1471 message said the number, it ended with "please hang up," which isn't normal for 1471 at all. My mum was curious and asked what kind of number it might be. I looked it up online and all I find points to a scam of some sort. It's really worrying because they're elderly and I wanna make sure it stops.

We've just had another call from this number tonight, and it seems like we're constantly inundated by various others as well. Whenever we dial 1471-just as we've been doing-and hit number three to return the call, I'm convinced it’s going to cost us a fortune! Why can't we have calls from just the individuals and businesses that we actually want to hear from? Sure, I understand that marketing folk are out to make a quick buck, but this is quite the unsavoury method of doing business. Especially considering, as someone else mentioned, the vulnerability of the elderly and those in poor health when they receive these unsolicited calls-it’s truly alarming to think about.

I just got a call from this number, with a lady speaking with an accent claiming she was calling from Microsoft. She said my PC was infected with a virus. When I asked how she ended up with my number since we're ex-directory, she claimed their system just randomly generates numbers to ring. They try to convince you there's a virus and give you a code they say will fix it, but actually lets them get into your laptop and "sort it" for you. I told her I checked out the code online and it's a known scam. Their trick is to say they’re removing the virus but then say they need you to download something which ends up charging you loads. Is there any effective way to report these people? I’m registered with the TPS but it’s clearly not stopping this. I said I reported them to police but she just kept on talking, so I hung up before she could go on any further.

Some bloke just rang me saying there was a virus on my computer and that I had to let him access it to fix it. I told him I only use a tablet, no desktop or anything. Then he asked if I was Mr Mucktarshamy, which I’m not. He then wanted my name, but I kept quiet. After a bit of silence from both sides, he just cut the call. Weird one.

It appears there's a rather excited pre-recorded voice informing us that we've snagged ourselves a complimentary boarding pass for a swanky cruise. Oh, how utterly ridiculous do these folks think we are! It does make one ponder, especially with the growing concern for our vulnerable senior citizens or those not in the best of health, being drawn into such nonsense!

Just a tip, when I let the answerphone pick up, they usually just drop the call and try again later. But if I actually pick up and then quickly end the call, they seem to give up after a bit. Before I did this trick, I'd get like over 10 calls every single day. Now, it’s down to maybe a couple a week. That 001 number only gave it a go once today, so I’m curious if they’ll bother ringing again… Anyway, merry Xmas everyone!
