I have been receiving frequent scam calls from a specific number. Being a pensioner, it is difficult for me to afford such scams, especially considering that I realized these calls have totalled £24.31 in charges this month when I checked.

Typically, these calls come in the morning and sometimes I answer without checking the number, only to be charged £2.13 per call automatically. If I stay on the line to explore what they want, some calls end up costing me around £5-7.

My mum’s phone bill showed this number about 15 times, all slightly different but always beginning with the same five digits. Each call cost £2.15. After looking it up, they’re competition lines from TV programmes like TV Am and that morning show with Phil and Holly (not sure of the exact name). Mum’s quite elderly and doesn’t recall ringing any of them. It’s quite dodgy of ITV to charge that much just to enter a competition. Watch out for this!
