Totally rubbish experience with this number, took nearly £50 off me and never even picked up when I called back. Proper bad service 👎

I called this number thinking it was the DWP but after waiting around 20 minutes the call just dropped. I only realised this morning it ended up costing me £40, which I'm really struggling to pay since I'm disabled and on benefits. Honestly, I’m not sure what my next step should be.

I got this number from a government website to call the benefits office, but every time I tried, the phone just kept ringing and then the call dropped.

Noticed a random £46 charge on my Virgin Media bill for some number I didn’t dial. Bloody fools, and Virgin are just trying to wiggle out of dropping this extra cost. Our landline is only for emergencies since we mostly rely on mobiles. Honestly, if I ever catch the idiot responsible for this, I might end up behind bars!

Just got my phone bill from the Post Office and it’s way higher than usual, over £100 extra! Turns out the calls were made to a premium number, 09050040300. Not sure how these scammers manage it, but we had a couple of suspicious calls that we ended pretty quick. Feels like these calls might be being used to rack up charges on our bill for premium services we never dialled. I’ve heard there are ways to stop these calls from getting through, so gonna look into that.

I've been reaching out to DWP through my journal, hoping to shed some light on this mess. It's really shocking how much money people are losing because of it. Honestly, I'm now quite nervous about calling Universal Credit at all.

I was convinced I was waiting to speak with the benefits department but when I got my phone bill, I was shocked to see a £55 charge. I never even got through to anyone! I checked with the benefits office and they told me all their lines are free to call.

We've found an extra £40 charge on my son's phone bill and he's sure he never called this number. We've tried getting help from 02 but they haven't been any use. Honestly, we're stuck and not sure what to do now. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm based in Bristol and like others mentioned before, I got stung for £47 just from calling Universal Job Credit twice. It's crazy that after loads of complaints like ours, the number is still active. I’m planning to find out who’s in charge of stopping these calls because it’s clear these sorts are preying on folks like me, who need to sort benefits because of the covid 19 mess. Such a awful way to take advantage of people just trying to get by.

I didn’t actually call 09050040300 but saw it on my phone bill with a charge of 44.37. Apparently it was meant to be for Universal Credit. Contacted EE about it but they couldn’t help at all. Really disappointing how they handle stuff like this.

Don't bother calling back, it just lets them know your number works. Also, never press any digits if they tell you to - you could end up phoning a costly international or premium line and get hit with big fees on your bill.

My mum insists she’s never rung that number, yet somehow she’s been charged loads on her bill for it. We’ve tried blocking the number but can’t do anything, not even the post office which apparently owns the line can help. It’s all a bit frustrating.

I looked up this number on Google and it showed up as an 08 number linked to the ESA from the UK's DWP. But when I rang it, it actually connected me through to 09050040300, which turned out to be a pricey premium rate scam. Ended up with a £240 charge on my phone bill because of it.
