I was trying to get in touch with HMRC regarding a query of mine, and I stumbled upon what was supposedly their official contact number on Google. I waited for a few minutes, but no one picked up, so I ended the call. To my surprise, I discovered that my network provider has hit me with an additional charge of £45.30 for that brief call. Crikey!

That’s not a genuine HMRC phone number, it’s one of those premium lines that charges way too much. The real HMRC use 0300 numbers which are much cheaper to call. I ended up getting slugged more than £50 after just a 15 minute call with this bogus number!
