We tried calling the number listed above from our mobile, but the caller hung up after a single ring. We don't recognise the number and certainly won't be returning the call. It’s probably a scam of some sort. Still, we're rather curious about who it might have been.

Yesterday, we received two calls from this number, but oddly, the phone didn't ring at all! We chose not to return the call as we were quite sure it was a scam. It's disappointing that these individuals are still able to profit from premium-rate numbers. Frankly, I can’t fathom a legitimate purpose for their calls in the first instance. It's much like selling a firearm - the person who acquires it is almost certainly going to use it in some way. So, who is behind these numbers, and how can I put a stop to it?

Just received a call from these folks at precisely 1:58 PM on the 16th of August, 2008. It's curious because this number is brand new and has only appeared in one location-Autotrader. Has anyone else here been trying to sell a vehicle lately?

Received a call earlier today (16/08/08) at precisely 10:28. After reading Darkstar's comment above, we've decided not to ring back the number we missed. We're on the Telephone Preference Service list, so it's puzzling how these folks managed to get hold of our number in the first place!

I received a call today at 1:01 p.m. on 16th August 2008, even though my number is on the Telephone Preference Service list. Quite frankly, I’m rather miffed by the whole situation. When we attempted to return the call, we were met with a robotic voice that interrupted halfway through the message, insisting we press the hash key to re-record it. It’s becoming quite tiresome dealing with these nuisances. Seriously, what’s the rationale behind these sorts of scams? They should really consider finding proper employment instead of harassing folks!

I received a call from this number earlier today, on the 16th of August at 2:24 PM. It only rang once. After calling back, a message was left asking to convey a message straight after the beep. I'm utterly perplexed as to who it could be.

Just received a call from a number that’s quite fresh and has only appeared in the AutoTrader listings. It was at 1:58 PM on the 16th of August, 2008. I wonder if any of you lot have been putting cars up for sale recently?

Right then, it seems there's definitely a connection here involving vehicles and insurance, doesn't it? I'm considering the idea of acquiring a premium rate number myself, combined with a pre-recorded message that mimics a conversation between us and anyone who decides to ring in. After that, I could just ring these blokes back and leave them with our premium line. Bit of a laugh, really! Just kidding, of course!

Received a call today, just as we were browsing comparison websites this week. It's likely that these folks got hold of our number from there. I’ve also signed up with the Telephone Preference Service, which makes it all the more frustrating when these calls come in. We’re keen to identify who was on the other end so we can lodge a complaint!

Our mobile buzzed with a call from the number listed above. It rang just the once before the caller hung up, and we don’t recognise the digits at all. We won’t be returning the call, as it feels rather dodgy to us. Still, I can’t help but be curious about who might be behind it.

Our mobile received a call from the aforementioned number. It rang just the once before they hung up. This isn't a number we're familiar with, and we certainly won't be returning the call. It seems rather dodgy to me. I do find myself curious about who might be behind it, though.

I received a couple of calls from this number earlier today, the 16th of August, 2008. I’m not in the business of selling cars, but I did happen to use AdTrader a few days back!

Hello Darkstar, just to clarify, we haven't ventured onto gocompare.com or any similar price comparison sites. The sole online venue where I've inputted our mobile number is trade-it.co.uk when we were attempting to list our car for sale, which was quite some time back now. It appears, however, that many others here have shared their details on sites connected with the automotive industry in some manner. It raises the question: surely there's some official registration for the firms utilising these 0871 numbers, isn't there?
