Got a call from someone saying they were with Virgin Media, trying to push me to upgrade my SIM. As soon as I started quizzing them, they just ended the call. Bit dodgy if you ask me.

Today, on 20th April 2021, I got a call from someone about my sim card. As soon as I heard the voice and the way they kept saying ‘Madam’, I knew it was dodgy. I decided to be as ridiculously polite and overly sweet as possible, just to mess with them. After that, I told them I didn’t want to continue the chat and ended the call.

Some bloke said he was Alex from O2, but I reckon he was actually Ranjit or summat. Talked so fast I could hardly keep up and didn’t bother hearing a word I tried to tell him. Proper annoying!

Got a call from someone with an Indian accent claiming to be from Carphone Warehouse, talking about some mobile deals. Once I told him exactly what I thought of the call, I just hung up. Number was 08713096241. Total scam in my opinion.

I saw a post here from 15/04 that explains how you can report these scams. It’s also a good idea to let the police know by using the action fraud website.

It’s pretty clear this scammer hasn’t kept up - Currys has been Currys PC World for over two decades now, so they must be stuck in the 90s or something!

08713096241 - Mobile scam alert. I got a call asking about my monthly charges and I said if she worked for Virgin Media, she’d already know that. Then she claimed she couldn’t share info because of ‘Customer Confidentiality’. I told her my surname started with CAM and my first name initial was S! When she still didn’t get it, I asked for my 4-digit password, the one I set up with Virgin Media! After all, anyone could be calling pretending to be them! She didn’t seem too pleased, so I just hung up. Watch out, these scammers are really dodgy!

Got a call from a spoofed cell number again - no way to text them back. When I tried ringing, it just said: The number you have dialled can’t be connected. Feels like a scam to me, so I’ve blocked it straight away!

I picked up the call but they just stayed silent and ended it after around 20 seconds. To be safe, I went ahead and blocked the number immediately.

Got two calls from this number today. I had loads of calls on Monday, which was a bank holiday, but those were from a mobile, so I just blocked them. Just added this one to my block list as well.

Some bloke rang me saying he was from this firm called Modjo, asking about a crash I had a few months ago when another driver hit me. He said they wanted to pay me a compensation lump sum for the hassle of being stuck in the car, which was true so I kept listening. He claimed to have info on the accident but wouldn't confirm anything due to confidentiality. All he did was ask yes or no questions and then said he’d bring someone senior onto the call, which is when I ended it. He rang me twice more but I didn’t pick up and he never left a message.

My partner received a call that pretended to be from the phone provider, 3, claiming to offer her a new contract and an upgrade since her existing one was up for renewal. However, after the conversation, she reached out to 3 for clarification, only to be informed they had no record of such an upgrade or any call made to her! To add to the bewilderment, they attempted to withdraw money from her bank account, despite previously assuring her that no payments would be taken until the end of the month!
