My monitored home alarm system is linked to this non-geographic number 08712005090, which is a service line. On one day in May, it rang out automatically 16 times in quick succession, between 16:37 and 16:42, costing me about £4.64. I really don't understand why it kept dialling that number so many times.

I've received a bill of £1.50 linked to this number, yet I've made no calls whatsoever. Does anyone know who this might be? It’s a private line. Cheers, Jane Finch.

Just to add a quick note, we've gone through some of our past phone statements and it appears this fee has been appearing since 2010. I suppose we were less vigilant back then compared to this year. Honestly, I'm baffled as to how we're being charged for calls that we definitely didn't make or approve. The amounts might not be astronomical, but the principle stands firm; whether it’s £10 or £100,000, it feels wrong. How on earth does this sort of practice even get sanctioned?

Recently, we discovered a peculiar charge on our bill - an astonishing 40 phone calls, each racking up at a rate of 16 pence, all linked to the number in question. These charges appeared for dates 9th and 15th February. To our utter astonishment, we haven't made any calls to this number; it's just me and the cats at home. As clever as they are, I'm afraid they haven't quite figured out how to use the telephone just yet! We do have an ancient BT alarm, but that shouldn't be causing this issue, right? It's utterly baffling how we could possibly be billed for calls that we haven't initiated ourselves - we certainly did not give our consent for these payments. After a notably convoluted telephone exchange with Talk Talk, the representative was unable to reveal the identity of the person or entity behind this number. We did manage to reclaim a couple of pounds, which was an improvement, but the real enigma lies in how we incurred charges for calls we know we didn't make. Upon looking into this further, I stumbled across various comments from others who had similar concerns regarding this number. It’s not merely about a few pounds; it’s the principle of the matter that irks me! We too experienced an odd noise when we attempted to call this number back. Talk about a wasted Friday evening! Absolutely infuriating! The troublesome number is 08712005090.

After some investigation, it appears that this number is linked to BT. I suspect it’s being utilised by ADT for the maintenance of older BT alarm systems. Strangely, I’ve noticed a considerable number of charges on my phone bill for calls to 0871 200 5090, and I definitely didn’t approve those! A while back, BT alarm services were handed over to ADT, which is part of the TYCO group, and it seems they’ve now changed hands yet again, this time to Johnson Holdings, which belongs to Apollo Global Management, another firm from across the pond.

I've been keeping an eye on my ADT monitoring, and it generally seems to happen in the early hours of the morning. Occasionally, I’ll receive a couple of calls in the evening as well. The calls tend to be around 23p (UK) - I think it’s high time I get in touch with ADT to sort this out!

We noticed approximately 50 charges from 0871 200 5090 on our most recent BT invoice-quite a few of them racked up while we were on holiday, no less! BT claims that the folks linked to this number haven’t a clue about it. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to tackle this? Cheers, Graham.

Upon perusing my phone bill, I noticed a staggering tally of 30 calls linked to this number. Curiosity piqued, I rang up BT to unravel the mystery. It then dawned on me that these calls coincided with the timeframe when the battery of my security alarm was due for a change. Apparently, the system had been reaching out to the monitoring company to notify them about the dwindling battery life. Quite the revelation!

I’ve just noticed this number on my latest bill, and it appears my son has been dialling it. Who on earth are they? I’m being charged 6p for every minute!

I've noticed on my phone bill that I've been dialling 08712005090 without any recollection of doing so. When I attempted to call the number back, all I got was a sound akin to a fax machine - rather perplexing! Since I'm being charged 6p per minute for these calls, I'd really like to put an end to this situation, but I'm at a loss on how to proceed. Any advice on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated!
