I've encountered a similar situation not too long ago. My latest phone bill showed a staggering 22 calls, each a mere 6 seconds in length, occurring at the most unexpected hours throughout the day. After some digging, it turned out to be a glitch with my alarm system. It seems it was linked to the central alarm control and malfunctioning, which caused it to ring in for no reason. Thankfully, that pesky issue has now been sorted. Just thought I’d share in case it’s useful to anyone else!

I first noticed calls to this number popping up on my billing back in March 2012. Since that time, the frequency of these calls has surged significantly. In recent weeks, I've found a fair few on BT’s call register: they’re all OUTGOING, typically lasting less than six seconds, and invariably cost me 15p a pop. It honestly feels like I'm being taken advantage of, albeit at a snail's pace. To the best of my knowledge, there's nothing in my home capable of making those calls. I can’t help but wonder if an illicit device is hidden away in the nearest junction box or perhaps even at the exchange itself. It’s all rather vexing. At the moment, I’m just twiddling my thumbs waiting for a response from BT regarding this matter.
