Someone called saying they were from Barclays fraud team and wanted my bank account number and sort code. I didn’t give them anything and decided to call Barclays fraud department straight away. Turns out, they hadn’t contacted me at all and my account was fine with no issues. Definitely a scam!

I got a call from what said to be Barclays fraud team, so I dialled them back. It was all automated though, like a machine from Barclays' fraud dept. No need to give out any account info, they just asked me if some recent payments were legit or not. Pretty straightforward really.

This number rang me twice, each time I got an automated message about Barclays Fraud and it asked me to press any key to proceed. Both times I just hung up straight away. I then decided to phone Barclays myself, and they put me through to their fraud team. It turned out it really was a Barclays number. They explained that the calls were triggered because I had updated my PayPal account with a new card the day before. Apparently, PayPal contacts the bank to verify card details and since they do this from abroad it can set off a fraud alert. So, in my experience, the number was genuine after all.

This isn’t Barclays, so don’t press any links in the message. I looked up Barclays official website and found their fraud team’s number myself. They ran a check on the caller’s number I had and said it’s not one they use. They were really helpful and double checked all my latest transactions for me. Everything was fine, proper quick and professional service.

Got two texts and two calls, one on my mobile and another at my house. Now, weirdly, my home phone has no dial tone. The caller said it was Barclays Fraud department. I never answered any of them. Checked my account and everything seems normal. The calls sounded like those automated ones.

For real! I was attempting to clear a big chunk off my catalogue balance but kept getting errors. Then this number called me but I missed it. They left a voice message, and later I got a text too. Barclays then messaged me about possible fraud, offered to reply by text, and that’s how it all got sorted. The voicemail was about the same issue. So yeah, definitely Barclays, not a scam.

Early this morning, I got a couple of calls from this number, so I ended up switching my phone off. After that, they rang our landline and spoke to my mum, asking her to let me know. She then messaged my girlfriend, and I rang my bank straight away. It actually felt quite genuine since the bank did want to check with me about some transactions. Most were from iTunes, which seemed odd because they're outside the UK, and there was also an online purchase for a gnome or something like that.
