Not long after receiving a call from 08453512255, which claimed to be from Nationwide, we decided to hang up and reach out to Nationwide Building Society directly. As it turned out, the call was indeed legitimate; someone had attempted to use our credit card for a phone transaction at CarPhone Warehouse. Nationwide swiftly blocked our card, so in hindsight, it was definitely prudent to heed the call or, better still, ring Nationwide ourselves.

I picked up a call that turned out to be a pre-recorded message claiming to be from Nationwide, mentioning something about fraud and asking for Mrs Brenda Daniel. As soon as I heard that, I thought it felt dodgy, so I hung up. Later, when I dialled 1471, the number came up as 0845 3512255. To double-check, I called the Nationwide credit card helpline, and they confirmed it really was them. Apparently, there was a suspicious small transaction on my daughter’s account that’s linked to mine, so we’ve cancelled both cards. Better safe than sorry, I suppose!
