Had I come across this conversation prior to my call, I would have certainly looked into the callback fees, but I reckon it’s still a far lesser cost than the potential overdraft charges we would have incurred, having missed an extra bill on our joint account until they brought it to our attention. All in all, I’m quite pleased with HSBC's service. They didn’t ask me for any payments over the phone; I simply logged into my secure online banking and settled the outstanding amount from there.

It’s clear this scammer possesses a worrying amount of my personal information and is exploiting the fact that HSBC had tried to reach me. IF YOU RECEIVE A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER, DON’T ENGAGE! Hang up and reach out to HSBC directly using the secure contact number available on their site. Remember, NEVER divulge any security information unless you’re dealing with an automated service from a verified HSBC number that you have dialled yourself!

We mentioned our intention to transfer funds to rectify this.
