I have received the same SMS as others in this conversation in the past hour. I haven't received any phone calls, only the SMS. I recommend ignoring and deleting it. It seems to be a scheme to trick people into calling a low-rate 0844 number, as people have become aware of the premium rate scam. If enough people make the calls, the person behind it will still make money from it. BT charges up to 5.1p per minute, plus a connection fee of up to 15p. Virgin charges up to 12.41p per minute, plus a connection fee of up to 15.94p, or up to 5.1p per call. Mobiles More! sent the SMS from: 07456317621 (although this number can be easily faked).

17:19. Received the same spam message again. Absolutely infuriating! Disgusting individuals! The message was sent from the phone number +44 7447832440, which is registered to a company called 3. I have sent a complaint email to their customer service, but I highly doubt they will take any action. Now I am trying to figure out who owns that phone number, although I have little hope that it will make any difference. PhonePayPlus will likely dismiss any responsibility since it's not a reverse charged SMS, so they won't take action against these scammers. Ofcom may push the issue to PhonePayPlus, while the police might say it's Ofcom's problem. The Information Commissioner probably won't bother getting involved either. It seems like the regulators are in cahoots with these fraudsters, as they always avoid taking decisive action against them.
