I keep getting calls from Tunstall Alarms, and I think some of them might be automated messages. It’s a bit annoying since I’m not sure if I’m speaking to a real person or just a robot.

Since May, I've noticed I've been charged for 16 calls from this particular number. The odd thing is, they don't show up on my phone's call log, making it impossible for me to block them. To make matters worse, my provider seems powerless to intervene and put a stop to these incessant calls. It looks like I might have no choice but to change my number!

I've got a Carelink alarm provided by BHPA Tunstall, and I’ve noticed they’ve really ramped up the fees for their emergency service. Quite frustrating, to say the least!

It seems we've been charged on two occasions for calls from this number, despite never having made any call to it.

My mum, who’s quite old, insists she’s never dialled this number. She’s got a home security system too, so it seems like the same sort of scam others have mentioned here. I tried getting in touch with BT about it, but they couldn’t care less.

I received a call from them and barely had a moment to express my disinterest before hanging up. When my bill arrived, it revealed a 13-second call that cost me 16 pence plus VAT. That works out to more than a penny for each second of the conversation! What a rip-off!

This number hasn't rung me but I noticed it’s appearing on my landline statement as if I called it. A few calls are recorded right around midnight which is quite confusing. I’m still trying to figure out what's going on with this.

Got scammed, really strange. No one rang us but suddenly there's a £0.92 outgoing call on the bill. We definitely didn’t make any calls like that. I’m gonna try and find out why it says it was an outgoing call and how we got charged for it.

This particular number managed to ring me twice last month. After checking with 1471, it seems Plusnet has added over £20 to my bill for those calls from the last and previous months. I’m a bit at a loss over how to stop these calls from coming through. Quite frankly, I believe this number ought to be blocked entirely!

Re: 08444153757
My elderly mother, who is 87, has been inundated with calls from this dodgy number month after month for the past three months. Each time, these unwanted calls have resulted in charges appearing on her phone bill. It’s apparently linked to some sort of “Internet Service Provider” scam, yet there's a bit of a conundrum here - she doesn't even have the internet at her home! There have been countless complaints from numerous individuals over the years regarding this issue, prompting the need for action from the Regulators and BT. In straightforward terms, this number ought to be prohibited, and BT should take the initiative to block 08444153757 entirely from their network, ensuring it can't be used for any purpose, by anyone, at any time. Quite simple, really!

My son, who suffers from MS and relies on Tunstall, has recently received a bill for calls made to this number. The issue is, his wristband had been running low on battery for a fortnight, yet it seems there were calls made while it was out of action. Unfortunately, our phone supplier hasn’t been much assistance in this situation. I’m now considering reaching out to Tunstall to see if they offer any better support.

My mother has been dealing with early stage dementia, and it seems these individuals are taking advantage of her situation by bombarding her with bogus calls that are racking up her charges. Usually, she has free calls included, but this appears to be some kind of premium rate line. It's quite distressing, honestly.

So this number rings for the Tunstall red button alarm. The person using the service might set it off on purpose or even without realising it. Sometimes a power cut, surge or trip can cause it to go off too without anyone meaning to. The phone calls will keep coming through until someone physically presses the red button on the alarm unit and chats with the call centre. After that, they ask you to try out the pendant as a test, and then the call centre can finally stop the calls.

My mother has received a total of six calls at peculiar hours, one of which came through at half past midnight! 😳 And she’s been billed for them as well! What’s even more bizarre is that we have no idea who the caller is. 🤷‍♂️

I've noticed that this number, 08444153757, has shown up as outgoing calls on my mother's phone bill. The thing is, she's definitely never made any calls to it. Now, it's been added to her charges, which is quite concerning!

I've noticed that my account has been charged three times for this number, which, after going through some earlier correspondence, I believe is linked to Tunstall. I can assure you that I haven't initiated any calls. If the alarm's red button had been activated, Tunstall would have come through and I would have informed them that their assistance wasn't required, just like I've done previously. Cheers, Doreen Smith.

Account CM58609646. It appears we’ve been charged three times for this number on 27th August, 3rd September, and 10th September. After checking on my iPad, it seems to be linked to Tunstall, but we certainly haven’t made any calls to them. Had we done so, I would have had a word with them to clarify that their services aren't needed. Cheers, Doreen Smith.

my elderly aunt, who’s 94, has noticed some calls billed from this number 08444153757 on her phone. There were four calls on the 17th of June, one on the 18th, two on the 21st, and six on the 22nd, adding up to £3.17. I checked with her provider, TalkTalk, and they confirmed the calls were definitely made from her line. What’s odd is most calls happened a bit after the hour, lasted about 15 seconds, then another one just two seconds later. This is completely bonkers. Anyone got any suggestions on what to do? Cheers, Pauline Arnold.

My elderly aunt, who's 94, has been hit with charges for thirteen calls from this number on her phone bill. Talk Talk insists that she’s the one who made all these calls, each lasting a mere 2 seconds, during the most ludicrous hours.

Blimey! I racked up £50.42 for 110 calls over a staggering 4 hours and 2 minutes! It’s that lot from Tunstall, you see. Sadly, my grandmother suffers from dementia and she’s completely forgotten the purpose of a landline. Just a heads up, her plan covers unlimited calls at any time, but it turns out this number isn’t part of that deal as it falls under the premium rate category. Quite frustrating, really!

Can anyone shed some light on this? This number keeps appearing on my mother-in-law's phone bill quite often. Cheers!

The calls you’re receiving originate from the Tunstall care call centre, triggered by the pendant or the red button linked to the phone. This usually happens due to a brief power outage or surge. The system persistently dials out until someone within the premises either presses the red button or communicates with the call centre, at which point the situation is resolved and the line is freed up. That’s precisely why these calls can come through at unusual hours or even in vacant properties, completely unbeknownst to the service user that anything is amiss.

This particular number pertains to the Tunstall/Careline Emergency Response Unit, which has been installed in the residences of elderly and disabled individuals by your local council. It's that small device located next to your phone that alerts emergency services when you press the red pendant.

I can confirm this as I received a telephone call from Tunstall today. They informed me that Birmingham City Council has ceased funding this service, which accounts for the charges you're seeing on your phone. I was also told that the council was meant to notify me about these changes, but I have yet to receive any communication.

I hope this information proves useful to you.

I noticed this particular number popping up repeatedly on my father's phone bill just prior to Christmas, which I found rather strange, especially considering that my father had passed away the week before. It leaves me scratching my head, as there's no way anyone could have answered the phone given that the house was empty. How on earth could this happen?

I keep seeing this number appear repeatedly on my 97-year-old father's BT phone bill, even on days when he's not around. I've reached out to BT about it, but they were rather vague on the reasons behind it. They assured me they tried to block it, so fingers crossed it’s sorted now!

Have you noticed a recurring theme in these remarks? It appears to be the number that gets called when the emergency button is pressed. If you have older family members who seem to be getting targeted by scammers, it might be worth inquiring if they’ve accidentally activated their emergency call system.

I noticed an alarming pattern on my BT bill lately; it reveals that my elderly mother has received a staggering eleven calls from the number 0844 4153757. It’s quite obviously a scam, as they seem to be manipulating her with reversed charges. I took it upon myself to answer one of their calls, and it turned out to be a rather dodgy foreign call centre. There's no way I would’ve dialled that number, to begin with; when I tried, it was unavailable. This definitely warrants putting in a complaint!
