I keep getting calls from Tunstall Alarms, and I think some of them might be automated messages. It’s a bit annoying since I’m not sure if I’m speaking to a real person or just a robot.

That number, 08444153757, is definitely dodgy. My mum got called 3 times in just a month, and she didn’t even pick up because she’s deaf. Still, she got charged for the calls. We rang BT and they gave her a refund, telling us they know about this number and it’s linked to an online scam. Just a heads up to everyone, be wary if this number pops up and get in touch with your provider if it does. Also, blocking it through BT's blacklist isn’t enough to keep you safe.

Since May, I've noticed charges for 16 calls from this number on my bill. They never show up in my phone's call log, so I can't block them myself, and my network provider says there's nothing they can do to put an end to it. Looks like I might just have to get a new number!

I’ve got a Carelink alarm from BHPA, and somehow Tunstall’s ended up charging me premium rates whenever I use the emergency service. Bit annoying really!

I got a call and only managed to say "No thanks" before hanging up. Later, I checked my phone bill and saw they charged me for a 13 second call - 16p plus VAT! That works out to more than a penny a second. Ridiculous!

Last month this number called me twice. When I tried doing a 1471, I got charged from the second call, and then my bill from Plusnet was over 20 quid this month because of them. I have no clue how to block it. Honestly, I reckon this number ought to be blocked or taken off completely.

My elderly mum, who is 87, keeps getting calls from this dodgy number every month for the past three months, and each time it’s added a cost to her phone bill. They claim to be from an ‘Internet Provider’ but she doesn’t even have internet at her house! Loads of people have reported problems with this number over the years, so now both the relevant authorities and BT are aware. Honestly, this number should be taken off the network entirely. BT should take action and stop it from being used at all, no exceptions. It’s that simple!

The battery in his wristband was low for nearly a fortnight, and they say it made calls while like that. I’ve tried sorting it with his mobile network but no joy. My mum has early onset dementia and she's getting calls from these lot that aren’t real, just to make her phone bill more expensive. Usually she gets free calls, but this seems like a premium number taking advantage of her.

So this number rings for the Tunstall red button alarm. The person using the service might set it off on purpose or even without realising it. Sometimes a power cut, surge or trip can cause it to go off too without anyone meaning to. The phone calls will keep coming through until someone physically presses the red button on the alarm unit and chats with the call centre. After that, they ask you to try out the pendant as a test, and then the call centre can finally stop the calls.

This number has shown up on my bill thrice now, and from what I’ve seen in earlier messages, it’s linked to Tunstall. I haven’t placed any of these calls myself. Account CM58609646 - we've noticed three charges for this number on 27/08, 3/09 and 10/09. The iPad shows it’s connected to Tunstall but we’ve never phoned them. If we had, they would have responded and I would've told them to stop. Doreen Smith

my elderly aunt, who’s 94, has noticed some calls billed from this number 08444153757 on her phone. There were four calls on the 17th of June, one on the 18th, two on the 21st, and six on the 22nd, adding up to £3.17. I checked with her provider, TalkTalk, and they confirmed the calls were definitely made from her line. What’s odd is most calls happened a bit after the hour, lasted about 15 seconds, then another one just two seconds later. This is completely bonkers. Anyone got any suggestions on what to do? I got charged £50.42 for 110 calls, which adds up to just over 4 hours of talking! Yeah, it’s Tunstall calling. It’s quite upsetting because my grandma has dementia and doesn’t really understand what a landline is anymore. Just thought I'd mention this. She’s on an unlimited anytime plan, but obviously this number isn’t covered since it’s considered a premium rate one.

The Tunstall care centre gets these calls from the red button unit connected to the phone, usually triggered after a power hiccup, even if it’s really short. The calls will keep coming now and then until someone at the house hits the red button again, chats with the call centre, and sorts it out. That’s why you might get calls in the middle of the night or from homes that aren’t occupied, and the person using the service might not even realise there’s an issue.

This phone number belongs to the Tunstall/Careline Emergency Response Service, which local councils install in the homes of elderly or disabled folks. It’s that small device next to your phone which you activate by pressing the red pendant in case of emergencies. I found this out after getting a call from Tunstall earlier today. They explained that my local authority, Birmingham City Council, has ceased funding this service, so now users are liable for phone charges. Apparently, the council was meant to notify residents about this change, but I haven't received anything from them yet. Thought I’d share this info in case it helps anyone else.
