You should know HMRC wouldn’t leave a voicemail threatening you with legal trouble if you ignore it. Plus, why would they use a recorded message to phone you? These scammers are awful and just try to scare elderly or vulnerable people. If you get any dodgy calls or texts, report ’em straight to HMRC. If it’s a suspicious text, forward it to 60599 - your network might charge for that though. Remember, HMRC never contacts you about a tax refund or asks for personal or payment details by text or email.

I just received a rather alarming phone call that claimed to be from HMRC. They were insisting that either I or my solicitor must return the call, or we'd be facing some serious legal consequences! I've encountered the same thing myself, and interestingly, it wasn't even on my personal mobile! It happened on my work phone, which makes it all the more concerning. Definitely seems like another dodgy scam out there.

I just received a rather concerning call, but I let it divert straight to voicemail. It appears they're urging me to return the call or risk some sort of legal trouble... how charming! I'm relieved to see I’m not the only one who’s dealt with this, as it turns out they’re masquerading as HMRC. Just to clarify, HMRC won’t reach out via phone; they’ll send you a written notification. If you do need to have a chat with them, it’s entirely up to you to make that call. Stay vigilant, everyone!

Today, I received a rather alarming call from the number 0844 357 5158, followed by another from 0845 327 0378 just thirty minutes later. They claimed to be representatives of HMRC and ominously advised me to consult a solicitor before attempting to return their call, implying that I could potentially face prosecution. Quite unsettling, to say the least!
