I received an automated call that felt quite menacing. When I tried to return the call using my work phone, I was connected to a chap who was clearly just a bad actor pretending to represent HMRC. I just got a phone call saying it was a summons for a county court judgement and that I needed to get in touch with them straight away. I just let the message run through. It’s really terrible how these scammers target vulnerable people. Older folks especially would probably panic and fall for it immediately. this is a classic scam call. i wasnt sure at first, so i decided to ring hmrc directly on their official number to double check. they told me straight away it was a scam and said they weren’t trying to get hold of me at all. somehow these scammers still manage to catch people out, unfortunately.
