Someone rang me pretending to be from HMRC, claiming there was an issue with my tax credits and warning me to call back right away or they'd have to get my lawyer involved. I actually thought it was legit and called them back. The person on the other end spoke awful English, which made it really hard to follow, so I eventually just ended the call. I was daft enough to trust them though since I hadn’t bothered to verify the number and later got hit with a hefty charge on my phone bill. That’s when I finally twigged it was a scam!

Honestly, the best thing we can do to shut down these scam calls, texts, and emails is to report every single one to Action Fraud. Just search ‘Action Fraud’ on Google, pick the police.uk website, then head to the reporting area. Make sure you file it as a phishing scam. You don’t need to give any personal info or sign up for anything. The police need heaps of reports to know when to step in and deal with these fraudsters properly. We all have a part to play - make sure you report every dodgy message or call you get!
