0844 numbers are much like 09 numbers - best to avoid answering them! If you get a call like this, make sure you report it to the police via Action Fraud. Just Google 'Action Fraud', click on the official 'Police UK' link, hit the 'reporting' tab near the top, pick the 'phishing reporting' option, then scroll past the scam emails bit to report this call and any other dodgy numbers. You can add full details in the free text boxes as you go through the report. No need to sign up, and it’s pretty quick - mostly ticking boxes with the chance to add extra info if you want.

Got a call on June 14th 2108 from a bloke with an Asian accent, number 08445211177, claiming to be from Sky about a new Sky viewing card. There was loads of background noise, sounded like an office but maybe just a recording, cos it was really loud. He asked for my date of birth. Said he had all my details and just needed to double check, but when I asked him to confirm the last digit of my DOB, he couldn’t. Didn’t know my Sky membership number or password either. Told him his scam didn’t fool me one bit.

just got a phone call from a woman named eleena claiming to be from sky about a replacement viewing card because my old one is about to expire. she said the new card would arrive within 5-7 working days. i gave her my birthday when asked, but when she wanted my bank info, i told her to send me a written request first and i’d only provide details then. after asking a few more times and me giving the same reply, she just ended the call. seems like a big scam to me, so don’t give out your bank details. if it’s really sky, they wouldn’t need that info just to send a new viewing card.
