Back in May 2015, I got a call from Penguin who said they were doing a credit check. They reckoned I owed about £6000 for some hidden PPI fees, even though I told them I never knowingly signed up for PPI on any of my cards. I probably should've been more careful, but now I'm £450 worse off because of it.

Avoid Penguin Finance at all costs. They ripped off my wife and me for £595 twice, claiming the charges on my credit card were refundable deposits in case a PPI claimant went bankrupt. Even though my PPI claim didn’t go through, they still haven’t given us our money back. They had assured me I was owed over £5000. They even tried to say all the complaints about them were made up by rival financial firms who actually pay out PPI refunds. Seriously, watch out!

Totally avoid this dodgy company, they’ll just nick your money without asking. Just discovered they're no longer in business, so good luck trying to get any of it back.

I got caught out by the five card scam and ended up handing over £499 for some PPI Compensation. I even sent them a recorded delivery letter, but the address was wrong so it got sent back. I've now contacted the Legal Ombudsman and fingers crossed I get my money back.

I get calls nonstop, like at least twice a day and it’s driving me mad. They only ring my work phone which I need just for emergency calls. It’s putting people at risk because when I pick up to some rubbish call, I might miss a real emergency. When I’m off duty, I have to leave my phone locked in the van. Today’s call was a bit more unsettling. They actually said they were from my Bank’s claims team, offering to repay PPI I was supposedly owed! They claimed if I didn’t claim, my Bank would keep my compensation. I’ve never shared my banking details and normally just hang up. Curious how they got any info (guessing it’s not just a lucky guess), I asked them for details and who they really were. They had no info at all and I didn’t give them anything. This new tactic could easily fool some folks. Eventually, she admitted it was just a random nuisance call from a mailing list.
