They claim to be a PPI firm, and when I phoned the number back, an automated voice started talking about some debt relief service. Also, I noticed the number had a weird prefix, which means extra charges on my phone bill. Gotta keep an eye on that. Absolute rip-off.

Dont ring them back, its a PPI scam. They got a tricky prefix that charges you crazy rates (£1.20 per minute) if you return the call. Seriously, just dont do it.

This happened to me too. I reckon it’s one of those automated calls that just drops as soon as you pick up. If you ring back, you might get charged a fortune because it’s a premium number. Check this out: http://www.area-codes.org.uk/0843-numbers.php Do 0843 numbers make money? Yeah, since calls to 0843 usually cost more than your standard call, the company on the other end can actually earn some cash from it. Though it might cost you up to 40p a minute, the company probably only gets about 1p to 5p a minute. Most of the charge goes to the phone networks handling the call.
