I received a call where a recorded voice simply chimed in with, “Hello there.” Honestly, that was more than enough to raise my suspicions. Legitimate businesses aren’t in the habit of starting conversations like that, and if it were a mate, they'd certainly use my name. They only had a few seconds of my time, but surely that’s long enough for their system to register and remove me from their list. Ignoring it as a “missed call” just encourages them to keep ringing, and if you linger on the line for more than a moment, there's a good chance they'll be back for another go later on.
