On Thursday the 24th of October 2024 around 11:17 in the morning, I received a call on my home phone. So, PRA is one of those debt collection agencies that banks pass on unpaid debts to when customers miss their payments. They usually ring up and try to pitch a deal where you can clear the debt in one lump sum for less than you owe. Whether that’s a good thing or not really depends on how decent the offer is and if you can afford to pay it. They don’t tend to give up easy though - they'll keep calling almost daily for around a week, then if you don’t respond, they stop for a few months before starting again.

They claimed to be reaching out about my late husband, who has passed away, and mentioned someone by the name of Nicola Addlington. It really infuriated me, and I made it quite clear that if they dared to ring me again, I'd be reporting them without a second thought. Interestingly, they didn't reference any sort of debt collection during the call.

They ring me daily but never say a word, just drop the call after a few seconds. I looked up the number and it seems to be some sort of debt collection agency, but the reviews are pretty dodgy... you'd think if they were after money, they'd actually try to have a chat with you!

They rang a number I’ve never shared with anyone. I stayed quiet on the call and they didn’t say a word. Also, I’ve been getting texts from PRA about some debt and links to a debt site. No clue how they got hold of my number, but if they call again, I’m thinking of messing with them - maybe pretending to be a mad Irish lady or an Indian woman married to a multimillionaire!

This number rang my kid and left a voicemail claiming to be from PRA group, saying they needed to get in touch. Since my child doesn't owe anything, and PRA is meant to be a debt collector, it really set alarm bells ringing. Looks like they’re just dialing random mobiles to scam folks. Got a call from that number just now, and since it was after 6pm, I found it quite dodgy. It was a Scottish lady saying I had two accounts under my name. I told her I had no idea about them, and then she said she’d share more details if I did some security checks. She wanted me to confirm my address, but that’s when I knew it was a scam, so I just hung up.

Those PRA debt people are just con artists. Honestly, the smartest move is to just block and ignore them. If you happen to talk to one, just tell them to get lost and call them out as greedy crooks. You could also warn them you’re going to report them to the FCA, the Ombudsman, and even the police.

I picked up the phone and they said, "This is the Microsoft Fraud Department, please stay on the line while we get an operator for you." Then after about 5 seconds of silence, they just hung up. Haven't had any more calls from this number since. Hopefully this helps some of you, it did for me! 😊
