10 yearsI was in the midst of watching a live cricket match on my laptop when a pop-up appeared, presenting an error message along with a woman's voice urging me to ring the number displayed. It mentioned something about a helpline that could supposedly assist with a virus issue or the like! Without wasting a moment, I grabbed my iPhone and searched for the number, all while I was on the line with this chap from the so-called helpline, who claimed to be from Windows, using my landline. He insisted on helping me remotely and directing me on what actions to take on my laptop. Thankfully, as I was investigating, I quickly discovered through my iPhone that this was an outright scam. I promptly hung up on him! To be prudent, I reached out to my nephew, a tech whiz, who confirmed my suspicions - it was a scam aimed at gaining access to our computer systems!
