They're pinching my cash without so much as a by-your-leave - absolute rotters, a proper scam if ever I saw one!

I've fallen victim to a scam involving my mobile top-up by Whizz Play. This has been happening for some time, but I only realised it on the 3rd of April, 2017, when £9.00 was unexpectedly taken from my top-up balance. I reached out to Lebara for assistance, and they directed me to Whizz Play, but to make matters worse, it's a premium rate call. I'm at a bit of a loss here; I truly feel taken advantage of and utterly exasperated by the whole situation.

My phone bill has been hiked by more than £70 because I've been bombarded with gaming messages from Wizzplay, which I completely ignored, blissfully unaware that each one was draining my account by £3.75 over the span of 80 days! I did enter a competition online for the chance to win an iPhone, and while I recall that, I certainly didn't intend to subscribe to this dodgy gaming con. It’s absolutely scandalous and could be bordering on illegal, in my opinion!

Earlier today, I came to the rather unsettling conclusion that what I believed to be an irritating text message was, in reality, a sly method of siphoning off £3.75 for each message received. After seeking counsel from O2, I requested a complete reimbursement, yet they only offered me a measly £13.50. It turns out Wizzplay is operated by a firm named Claus Mobi, which is based in Düsseldorf. Is there perhaps an EU regulatory body that could put a stop to these unscrupulous bandits? It's nothing short of outright larceny!

Just a quick update: I've lodged complaints with PhonepayPlus, the advertising standards agency, my mobile provider, and even filed a report with the fraud squad at the police. Unfortunately, I haven't heard anything from them yet. I contacted the company today after sending them an email. Initially, they offered me a measly refund of £3-something, despite the fact that I was out of pocket by £13.50. I informed them of my concerns regarding their misleading advertising and mentioned that I'd reached out to the authorities. He put me on hold for a moment, and when he returned, astonishingly, they agreed to refund the full amount of £13.50. Now, I'm just biding my time to see if the money actually gets credited back to my PayPal account, as they said it would. Fingers crossed!

It appears that I may have inadvertently enrolled in something when I participated in a competition for Morrisons and shared my mobile number. I was completely unaware that they would be charging me £4.50 a month until I checked and saw they’d taken three payments as of last Friday. I’ve reached out to Phonepayplus for assistance, but to be honest, they haven't been overly helpful thus far. I've also lodged a complaint with Wizzplay via email and am now in the waiting game for their response. My mobile provider, Giffgaff, has informed me that they can’t simply block all premium numbers if I’ve signed up for them. It’s looking increasingly likely that I’ll have to change my phone number, which I’ve had for donkeys years.

I’ve been inundated with messages from Wizzplay, which I've simply chosen to disregard - I never subscribed to this nonsense at any point. To add insult to injury, they’ve started to drain my mobile account. I’ve lodged a complaint with Tesco Mobile regarding this fraudulent activity, and it’s now their duty to ensure I receive a proper refund. After all, it falls on mobile phone companies to oversee fraud and risk management; if they can’t handle it, they ought to reimburse me. This situation is akin to someone swiping a tenner from my wallet and strolling off - absolutely unacceptable. I’m more than prepared to set a legal precedent if it comes to that. Mobile networks need to get their act together and prevent this type of thing from occurring in the first place.

Hello there! I experienced something similar recently. Would you be able to share which provider you're using? Additionally, I'm curious to know if there's any chance of retrieving my funds from the company that basically robbed me.

I've received a text from this number as well. I figured it was just a scam, so I didn't bother responding or taking action. However, when I checked my statement, I found they had taken £40.50 from my account without permission! So far, my service provider has credited me £20 and managed to stop any further messages from coming through. I'm baffled as to how this was allowed to occur in the first place.

It's quite baffling to think how one might end up subscribed to something with absolutely no inkling of it. I truly fail to grasp why they can so effortlessly extract funds from my account without my consent. Surely, this must breach some kind of law!

I've been conned out of a fiver in precisely the same manner as various other victims.
It's beyond me how this is allowed to happen!
Every attempt I’ve made to contact them for a refund has fallen on deaf ears.
It's truly astonishing that they can evade any repercussions for their actions.

I've recently encountered issues with a firm named wizzplay.com. Apparently, I had enrolled in a weekly quiz without my knowledge, which ended up costing me more than £15. Vodafone was unable to trace who I was sending premium texts to until I received my bill. My tip to anyone seeing unexpected charges on their online statements is to have your service provider block all premium numbers; it’s an effective way to halt those escalating expenses. Keep an eye out for the number 68003-if you receive a message from them, just remember to text “stop” to cancel any membership.

I've just been sent a text claiming that I've signed up for Wizzplay, but I can assure you I have not done any such thing! The message tells me to text 'stop' to 65003 to unsubscribe. I'm quite perplexed as to how they are asserting I've voluntarily subscribed in the first place, and if this is a legitimate operation, how on earth would they acquire my banking information? It all seems rather dubious to me!

I fell victim to some dodgy scammers who swindled me out of £94. I called the number provided and ended up speaking to a chap named Robert Heron. He mentioned that I’ve been unsubscribed and promised to refund me half, which totals £47.25. To process this, they needed my bank details and warned it could take up to 21 days. If nothing comes through, they suggested contacting the ombudsman. I received a text confirming my unsubscribed status at 15.53 and was told a confirmation email regarding the refund would follow. I'll keep you updated if they actually come through with it!

I've noticed charges for incoming messages that I can't make heads or tails of, and despite my protests, they refuse to remove them from my bill. I just rang this number earlier today in an effort to put a stop to Wizz Play taking any more payments from me. They've already taken £4.50 from my account on two occasions, and as a retiree, my budget is rather tight. I simply can't keep dishing out cash for services I don't use.

Got a message saying if I didn't text "stop" to 60288, they'd charge me £4.50. So far, they've already taken that amount three times from me. I spoke to my provider and they told me they can't stop these charges, but they did trace the number back to a company called mgage, located in Tower Building, London. Is there no way the cops or some agency can step in and put a stop to these scammers? They definitely ain't allowed to be taking my money like this.

I've noticed some cash has appeared on my EE account that I've no recollection of adding. I suspect this might be tied to competitions I’ve never entered. It seems that this scam has the capability to siphon £4.50 from your bank account. What steps can Tesco, my service provider, take to address this issue? Alternatively, would it be prudent to involve the police, considering they must be fleecing countless individuals?

I recently made a purchase from M&S and I've been inundated with emails that seemed to ask for my thoughts on their service, along with a tempting offer to win £500 in vouchers. Being someone who is quite vigilant about scams, I’m absolutely livid that I fell for this one. It’s outrageous and should be treated as a criminal act. I'm planning to get in touch with my mobile provider first thing tomorrow to block any charges from these tricksters calling themselves Whizzplay Weekly. This scam deserves to be highlighted in the media. By the time individuals come across such reviews, they've likely already been duped as well. Cheers, MT.

Had to spend ages on the phone with Virgin after noticing I’d been charged for over six weeks, plus an extra £18 on top, even though this was the first text I got from them. No clue how they got my number or why I’m being billed. These companies seriously need to be cracked down on. I never signed up for anything and don’t even know who they are. I’m dealing with post-cancer stuff and don’t need the added stress or the cost - I’m on disability and can’t afford this.

I fell victim to a scam linked to the number mentioned earlier, which claimed to be from M&S. They’re now insisting that I’ve subscribed to something called the "WIZZPLAY WEEKLY COMPETITION SERVICE." To opt out, they’re telling me to send a text saying 'STOP' to 65003, but for some reason, those messages aren’t getting delivered. I’m in quite the pickle here-anyone able to lend a hand? I've just had an experience with what seems to be a complete con. They claimed to represent Marks and Spencer, telling me I was in for a delightful surprise gift. However, soon after, I received a text stating that I'd be billed £4.50 weekly unless I opted out. At no point in the message did it clarify that this wasn't actually M&S and that there would be a fee involved. Quite deceiving, if you ask me!

Just got a text saying I owe £4.50 a week. Like some others mentioned, when I try to reply, the message just won't go through. I’ve also sent an email. This feels like outright theft and if I don’t hear back within a day, I’m taking it to the police.

It’s absolutely astonishing that these fraudsters continue to operate without consequence; surely mobile network providers ought to take action! My husband reached out to them via email regarding his refund, and lo and behold, he received an official correspondence confirming that the money will soon be deposited into his account-after he shared his banking information, which they insisted upon. Their website claims refunds are processed within a fortnight, yet I have my doubts as it seemed like ages had passed before my husband decided to raise a fuss. I highly recommend getting in touch with them if you're in a similar situation! Don’t forget, they do indeed have an online presence.

I certainly didn’t sign up for that! I’ve already lost over £40. Our phone provider has informed us that there’s nothing they can do about it. So, what options do we have now?

Got a call about some M&S voucher deal, but it was a total scam trying to get me to agree to a weekly fee on my phone bill. Tried to block the number but it wouldn’t work and they even charged me for the blocked calls. O2 told me to just email the company behind it because they couldn’t help much since it’s a third-party thing. Really frustrating!

My partner recently fell victim to a scam after he filled in his phone number for a competition entry (something I would have steered clear of). The whole thing seemed to be endorsed by Morrisons, or at least that’s how they presented it (though I'm convinced they have no affiliation). He did get a text confirming his entry, but of course, he neglected to thoroughly check the terms and conditions regarding any potential fees. Just a heads-up for others, if you're quick about it, you can claim a refund within 14 days. He was rather unsure about disclosing his bank details, but thankfully, he's now been reimbursed £36.

Avoid these lot completely! They sent me a fake email pretending to offer M&S vouchers and ended up costing me £4.50. Pretty pricey error and honestly, it felt like it was right on the edge of being fraud. Wouldn't trust them for a second.

I've also fallen victim to these individuals, and it's absolutely baffling how they're able to siphon funds from my account without my consent. Surely, my provider should have measures in place to prevent this sort of thing from happening, shouldn't they?

I got a call from 08081433707 and it said if I don’t text STOP to some number - which doesn’t even seem real - they’ll take £4.50 from me? Then when I tried calling that same number back, it just wouldn’t connect. Total scam, I reckon.

I recently fell victim to a scam and lost £4.50. The company involved is called CLAUSMOBI, which appears to be based in Germany. I was charged this amount without having subscribed to anything at all. At the age of 73, I truly cannot afford to throw money away like this. It would be greatly appreciated if you could do something to put an end to such fraudulent businesses. Their text number is 60288, just for your reference.

Today, I got a rather unwelcome text from this unsavoury group, telling me to message 60288 if I wanted to prevent them from siphoning money from my Vodafone account. Last month, I reached out to Vodafone regarding this scam, and after a lengthy discussion, they informed me that my information didn’t line up with their records, such as my birthdate. Honestly, they weren’t very helpful at all.

I’ve successfully halted all payments to these con artists, yet I’m still waiting on more than £30 that I’m owed. I even got an email saying I’d be refunded, but I’ve yet to see a penny. What on earth is going on? It’s really quite infuriating!

I received what appeared to be a message from M & S, a retailer I often correspond with. Without a second thought, I responded, only to discover that I'd inadvertently signed up for a Play-Text competition service at a cost of £4.50 each week unless I texted STOP to 60288. They provided a number, 08081433707, for assistance if I required it. I can only hope that both EE and M & S are aware of this deceitful tactic-absolutely scandalous!

I recently responded to an enticing offer for a £500 Argos gift card, supplying my phone number as requested. To my dismay, I've now received a text notifying me that I've unwittingly signed up for some sort of subscription service, which my phone is refusing to process. I'm now facing a £4.50 charge each week on my bill. This feels incredibly sneaky and downright unfair. How on earth can I put a stop to this?

I've been absolutely livid with Wizzplay since April, as I'm being charged for a subscription I never even agreed to! My recent EE bill was £50 when I was expecting it to be just £30-it's all because of this Wizzplay nonsense. It's infuriating that they can just swipe money from my phone contract without any consent; to me, that's nothing short of theft! I've already tried to call their number to put a stop to this, and I’ll be ringing the company on Monday morning to demand a refund for this outrageous charge! Honestly, it's appalling that EE allows such practices to occur-where’s the notification or warning about this? I mean, how on earth could this situation arise? I NEVER SIGNED UP FOR WIZZPLAY!😡😡😡

I got a rather dodgy message from these jokers trying to fleece me for £4.50 every month. I shot off a text saying "STOP" to 60288, and their response was that I've opted out of their so-called weekly quiz, assuring me that my mobile will incur no further charges. I've also had a chat with my mobile provider to clarify the situation. I'd highly recommend that everyone steer clear of these shady characters or any firm that sends emails enticing you to enter competitions. They always ask for your mobile details. Best to just ignore or delete those messages; they’re definitely a scam. Now, I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that my next bill doesn’t show any unwanted charges after sending that "STOP" text.

This morning, I received a rather puzzling text informing me that I've signed up for a weekly competition service called Play-Text, costing £4.50 a week. The message instructed me to text "stop" to 60288 if I wished to unsubscribe. However, I’ve never knowingly subscribed to such a service, and when I attempted to send the stop message, it just returned a failure notification. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can effectively cancel this?

I received a call from this number claiming that I've signed up for the Play-Text weekly competition service, which supposedly will cost me £4.50 per month on my Vodafone account. However, I can assure you that I’ve never enrolled with this company whatsoever. It's quite concerning how they even obtained my contact details in the first place. I've had to reach out to Vodafone as well to have them put a block on these charges. This sort of thing should definitely not be permitted!

Sophie - My husband just mentioned that he’s been hit with a charge exceeding £30 from Wizzplay, and he's managed to stop the texts. They sent him an email promising a refund, despite their site stating refunds are processed within a fortnight of cancellation, which seems a bit odd since it’s been longer than that. He’s not keen on giving out his bank details and has asked if I could share my PayPal info instead, but I’m hesitant. If anyone manages to get their refund, could you please update us here? The email mentioned he signed up in May and included the time. I remember him sending me details about a Morrisons competition and questioning its legitimacy, but he tends to get mixed up with things like that, so I’m left wondering if he might have unwittingly shared his mobile number. The email also noted that he must have entered a PIN, which is news to him.

It's high time these organisations faced legal repercussions for their dubious practices; they are, quite frankly, acting unlawfully and mustn't be allowed to evade justice. The deceptive promotions from UK firms like Tesco, Morrisons, and even M&S are concerning. These large corporations possess the resources to tackle these con artists, so surely they could take a more proactive approach to eradicate this fraudulent behaviour? Wouldn't it be more beneficial if they focused their efforts on combating such scams rather than turning a blind eye?

I recently received a rather unexpected phone call informing me that I'd been fortunate enough to win £500. They insisted I provide my BIC and IBAN, mentioning that I had until the 25th of July (a mere 10 days!) to claim my prize. While the thought of that cash is tempting, I can't shake the feeling that something isn't quite right. The call appeared to come from Morrisons, indicated as a competition. Honestly, these businesses ought to take action to protect their image, as scams like these are doing them no favours. If this is a legitimate offer, then kindly send me a cheque instead!

I've found myself in a similar predicament and I'm eager to put an end to it. Is there a specific method to achieve this, or do I need to consider acquiring a new SIM card altogether? At present, my pay-as-you-go phone is devoid of any credit, yet I’m required to top it up monthly in order to maintain my plan. Would it be more effective to switch SIMs to resolve the issue?

I can certainly relate to what you've shared. I've had a similar experience where I lost £27 from my pay-as-you-go account. A huge thanks to those who mentioned that putting an end to the scam incurs a £5 text charge. However, what really concerns me is the prospect of needing to share my bank details for a refund. My attempts to get any assistance from EE have been futile; they seem far too large and rather indifferent. I’m going to give TESCO a go and see if there’s a way my new SIM can prevent any unauthorised deductions from my account-regardless of whether I inadvertently allow it.

I unfortunately got caught up in this scam as well. I reached out to my phone provider, and they were helpful in cancelling the service. They advised me to send a STOP message to prevent any further charges from cropping up. I must admit, sending the STOP text does come with a cost-I'm not entirely certain how much. However, I did get a confirmation that I'd been unsubscribed. I refrained from calling that number, as I suspect it would have come with a rather hefty bill. Honestly, I think it’s a small price to pay for the STOP message compared to the £4.50 they were going to take from me weekly.

I've encountered quite the hassle with this number. I’m unsure how I ended up subscribed, but it appears to have stemmed from clicking links in emails. I had a lengthy conversation with O2's customer service, where they dialled the number on my behalf, with me on the line. When someone picked up, it was a woman with an American accent, and she didn’t sound like your average call centre agent. She proceeded to ask for my mobile number and bank details in order to issue a refund, which immediately raised my suspicions. Her mood soured the moment O2 identified themselves. It’s imperative that 08081433707 is flagged as a scam. However, I'm afraid that as soon as this one gets shut down, they'll simply set up shop under a different number. Quite frustrating, really.

I'm hesitant to call 08081 433 707 to lodge a complaint about getting my cash back, as I'm worried it might just lead to yet another scam, possibly costing me an arm and a leg for the call. I've recently reached out to EE and they were absolutely splendid in assisting me. Thankfully, I managed to secure a refund for those pesky charges. Wizz Play is actually a service run by Creative Clicks and overseen by mGage. I received an email that I mistakenly believed was from Argos-it had their name on it, after all. It turned out to be a scam offering vouchers. In my naivety, I followed the prompt, and before I knew it, I had unwittingly signed up for Wizz Play. I made a trip to the EE store, where the staff advised me to reach out to EE directly for assistance in obtaining the right number to cease the onslaught of messages. I've since blocked the number on my phone. I'm planning to get in touch with EE to see if they can assist me further, as the email I sent them bounced back, and the number they provided to opt out just directed me to press option 1, yet I still received another message from them last Friday.
